How about doing something actually decent? Oh, on the not so creative list here's a few things:
  • BBK (preferably from the GTS)
  • Titanium exhaust from the GTS
  • 6MT option for cryin' out loud with an SSK
  • Upgraded pedal kit
  • Imola Red or Hellrot (well, personal opinion here, but loved these on the E46 and E36)
  • Brake ducts (found in the performance catalog)
All easily done....and that's not even being creative or special and it's still better than what they came up with. What is wrong with BMW anyway?

they didn't even add on the carbon fiber splitters and the carbon fiber wing...they could have at least offered that. so is this the future of the m3?...every year come out with a little different car and offer 30 to a country of 400 million. way to go bmw. i can't wait for the 2012 special edition...bring back frozen laguna seca blue.

Epic Fail. As others have stated. There is nothing truly "special" about this car. Different paint and seats...Right, and only 30 of them. Right..

MY2011 is not the last year of the E92 M3, MY2013 is.

Product Planning & Strategy Bulletin
Frozen Gray M3 Coupe – MY 2011
June, 2010
BMW NA is pleased to announce the Model Year 2011 Frozen Gray M3 Coupe. Customer demand for Frozen Gray exterior paint has been growing since last summer. Because the production capacity of this special frozen paint treatment is extremely limited, there will be only thirty (30) of these special, all identically equipped, Frozen Gray M3 Coupe passenger cars available in the United States for MY 2011. This bulletin is extremely important because it discusses both the car and pricing along with the unique way the thirty cars will be distributed in the United States.
The car:
Each Frozen Gray M3 Coupe includes three special features:
1. The Frozen Gray Coupe provides a Space Gray Metallic painted car with a deep luster matte clearcoat rather than glossy clearcoat finish.
2. A sporty and unique black and Fox Red two-tone Novillo leather interior includes seats, door panel inserts and console armrest.
3. A one day BMW M Driving School at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. (Travel not included)
Each identical 2011 Frozen Gray M3 Coupe has all standard equipment included in the regular production M3 Coupe plus the optional equipment listed below:
M DCT transmission (2MK) Competition Package (ZCP) Premium Package (ZPP) Carbon Leather Trim (4MY) Technology Package (ZTP) Heated Front Seats (494) PDC rear (507) Satellite Radio (655) iPod and USB adaptor (6FL) Enhanced Premium Sound (752) Frozen Gray exterior paint Bi-color interior (Black/Fox Red) One day BMW M School at the Performance Center
MSRP for the Frozen Gray M3 Coupe is $76,725 plus Destination and Handling ($875) and Federal gas guzzler tax ($1,300). Standard option retail mark-up applies. No equipment changes are possible.
Complete information on the 2011 Frozen Gray M3 Coupe may be found at www.bmwusa.com after 9:00 AM EDT, June 18.

Distribution:
BMW NA has developed a special program to sell and distribute the 2011 Frozen Gray M3 Coupe. The following sequence of events will take place: Thursday, June 17 – 4:00 PM EDT: Press release with photos distributed to national media. Friday, June 18 – 9:00 AM EDT: www.bmwusa.com will feature the 2011 Frozen Gray M3 Coupe in the site. An e-mail blast to selected prospects will be sent from BMW NA. Prospects will be directed to reserve a Frozen Gray M3 Coupe by calling a toll free hot-line at BMW NA starting Monday, June 21. Monday, June 21 at 11:30 EDT: BMW NA will open a reservations hot-line at 800-245-4269. This line will not accept calls before this time. It will close at 8:00 PM EDT on Monday, June 21. Starting Tuesday, June 22 and each day after until all reservations have been taken; the reservation hot-line will be open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM EDT weekdays. BMW NA will take 30 reservations and develop a waiting list, requiring the customer to provide name, address, phone number, e-mail address and a preferred BMW center if available. If no specific center is requested, the center tied to the customer’s Zip Code will be used. Once the customer information is collected, the relevant center will be notified of the customer’s reservation and directed to contact the customer immediately to organize the sale of a car. The customer and center will have 10 days from the customer reservation date to complete an agreed contract for sale of a car. After 10 days, the customer reservation will expire and assigned to the next available alternate customer. Within 10 days: The relevant BMW center must provide to BMW NA at Fax number
201-930-8484 the following: Copy of the signed buyers order or lease agreement, copy of a deposit receipt or check from the customer, and a copy of the customer’s driver’s license. Once the center/customer agreements have been received and certified for authenticity by BMW NA program headquarters, BMW will arrange shipment of one Frozen Gray M3 coupe to the relevant center for delivery to the customer. At delivery, the customer will be required to sign a Customer Care Acknowledgement form stating they understand the requirements for care of the car’s Frozen Gray paint. While the paint is very robust, there are some maintenance requirements that will prevent damage and maintain the deep luster of the gray finish. Further information on enrollment to the BMW M Driving School will be sent to the customer after delivery of the car.
Program Rules: All cars must be sold to the reserving customer as provided by BMW. Cars may not be ordered for wholesale, inventory or export. While centers reserve control over final transaction price, customers will be allowed to shop the deal within the 10 day period if they are required to pay a price that exceeds MSRP for the car as built by BMW. BMW NA has the right to review center employee reservations for authenticity. All cars are identical – no specific serial number car will be promised. A separate Aftersales Bulletin will be issued describing care instructions for the Frozen Gray paint including the Customer Car acknowledgement form. This program is limited to the only thirty (30) special, all identically equipped MY2011 Frozen Gray M3 Coupe passenger cars. BMW NA reserves the right to change the terms of this program at any time without notice.

Reserved on the 21st and delivered days later?
What is this, a fleet sale that fell through and the cars are sitting at a port?

Thanks for posting that - that's new info, unless I somehow glossed over it in the OP.

And with that info, we can deduce what they are charging for the individual paint and interior. To be honest, it sounds like this might be a pretty decent deal, but I'll let someone less lazy than me do the actual calculation to prove or disprove that statement. (Don't forget to include the cost of the M School )

Kinda yeah - sounds like BMW NA just had the factory run a batch of 30 identical cars to keep costs down. As it says above, no equipment changes are possible.

FU**K BMW. I don't even love any of the frozen colors but its the principle. We are one of if not the largest market for these cars, and the rest of the world gets the frozen grey, but we only get 30 limited edition ones.

Whatever, par for course BMW.........par for course.

Cheers,

I agree, this is a car you could buy and hold for 10 or 15 years and then sell at Barrett Jackson (or other venue) for what you paid for it, for no other reason than the rarity of it - IF the miles were kept way low.
I would definitely want to drive it, however!

I guess I'm in the minority in thinking this is cool. Frozen colors are awesome (although I prefer Frozen Black) and the 30 car exclusivity means that these cars will always carry a premium in the resale market as there will always been someone who wants one.

I predict they sell out within 4 hours. 30 cars is not even 1 per state!

Yes, they med just about everyone with that email.

I agree that these will sell out despite the lack of content worthy of a "25th Anniverary" edition.
