I'm the only one who drives mine so I never even touch them. All of the seat motors and what not are just dead weight.

If I was sharing with a spouse or something, the memory and power would be necessity.

Having the power seats, the best thing is the memory function. One push goes back to the driving position I want is what I am after.

I understand the only thing manual about manual seats are up/down, fore/aft, seatback recline/incline movements. What about rake adjustment? Power seats has rake adjustments as well.

Manual seats cost less, weigh less, and are less likely to malfunction. Manual seats were a no brainer for me. I think it is an immaterial factor for resale.

I have power and wish I had manual like my E46. They were standard in 2009 so I had to get them.

The memory is nice if you share the car but manual is lighter and has less stuff to break...

Manual or powered, its all preference. I do believe having them would limit the amount of potential buyers out there if one was looking to resell it in the future.

While I have no hard numbers to back this up I'll have to disagree with the good doctor! That may be true of the general population on this forum, but I think the overall population would prefer the power seats. The simplest test is to look at the population of manual transmission buyers on this board, much higher than in the general population. Just like the DCT significantly outsells the manual tranny in the M3 world, I suspect most would take the power seats as well. I don't disagree with the arguments against power seats, that's not the issue. But if we took identical cars, one with power seats and one without and were to try and sell it to the general population (not this forum with all the hard core enthusiasts), I suspect most select the power seats for the convenience factor.

Given that my wife has never driven my M3, I have no need for them either but they were part of a package so they came. That in it self is another factor. Again the hard core enthusiasts want to minimize the bells and whistles (and potential for problems they bring) but most of the average joe's like the creature comforts.

At the end of the day both my view and HeartMD's are just speculation as I doubt anyone has any real data to back up either claim! Just enjoy what you have...

Manual seats = cheap plus, when the valet first moves your car and changes the seat position, you'll be annoyed as phreak

The manual seats have power lumbar and side bolster adjustments (at least in my 2011.75)

Pros:
* Lighter
* I belive they make more headroom available (need evidence, but I've read this). Especially important for those who track for more helmet room.
* Saves money (probably negligible if effects resale)
* Less to break

Cons
* lack of Memory
* hard to hight adjust while driving

Rake adjustment is manual.

FWIW, I had automatic seats in my 335, now manual in my M3, and I feel like the M3 adjustment range is greater and I can adjust it faster than waiting on the motor.

Had manual seats on my E46 M3 and liked them just fine. All the same adjustments and some weight savings, once I had them set I didn't need to mess with them again.

On my E92 M3 I have power seats and the memory feature is nice to have because my wife is so much shorter than I am.

Im looking at one w/o power seats and while I think im ok w/o it and i can imagine hearing:
"well since you dont have power seats the trade in value will be less."

I really wanted to order my E92 with manual seats. First, the manual seats in our E90 are very nicely adjustible. Second, the electric seats way a freaking ton. Third, I'm probably keeping this long term, and it's just something else to break. Fourth, the electric seats way a freaking ton.

But ultimately I went with the electric because I read a few too many posts by manual seat M3 owners complaining they couldn't adjust the seat as precisely as they wanted.

Just stumbled upon this 4 yr old post. Hate that power seats sit you higher, and I actually much prefer the ride height and feel of my 328xic with manual seats to the E92 M3 power seats =( They are more comfortable though.

Yeah, who doesn't want all of that extra weight in electric motors for their performance car?

I adjusted the seat when I bought the car and haven't touched it since. I wish that mine DIDN'T have power seats except I bought late enough I couldn't order-I had to take what was on the lots.

The M3 use to be a sports car, so I don't think it would be a negative at all.

I guess now that it's a grand touring luxury car, people want their options.

I love my optionless E90!

edit: damnit I just fell into the old thread trap responding to a post made 4 years ago.. thanks SSJTrunks523 lol

Same here, only me driving the car so I'd prefer manual and save a few pounds. Bought mine used but wouldnt be a difference as they of some reason came with power seat as standard over here...

I had to get the DCT. My wife nags about the manual in my S2000. She really wasn't going to be pleased if I purchased another manual.

Are the manual seats lower due to lack of the motor? I know this was true in the same gen 328/335 cars
