Then it must be a EU thing, its all based on the Distance between the bonnet and the engine, hence the pop up rams, its apparently based on a v specific area of strike apparently, the guy was just unlucky i think, but if its happened once, it ll happen again no doubt. People are concerned that the car (in the uk at least) was becoming uninsurable due to the cost of parts! which you can only get in one place incidentally.... to make the chap feel better nissan uk gave him a free jacket! nice of them lol! j. |

I have been doing an assload of research on the GT-R lately as I am interested in one as well. I know the looks are subjective -- I happen to like the looks alot. The performance speaks for itself. The interior while not as nice as the M, is not bad at all and considerably better than the Vette. The one thing that may keep me from buying one is all the noises the damn thing reportedly makes. I've been a member of NAGTROC for over a year now and you will not believe the number of threads about transmission noise, clutch noise, differential noise, rattles and vibrations. I have not yet driven one but you can bet your ass that if the car has that much clunking, thunking and rattling, I will not own one. I know the car is not supposed to ride/sound like a Coupe Deville but for something I'm going to drive 85% of the time, it has to be refined. Having said that, I have pretty much ruled the Vette out and now if the stories about the GT-R are true, I will go for M3.

An 07 for 95k or a 2010/11 for 80+ K......... Porsche is AWESOME, but not worth that premium for a 4 year old model

Maybe not, but at least I know that the techs would be able to fix the 911 if there was a problem. Not saying that the GT-R techs couldn't fix the car if there was a problem but these guys have been working on Sentras.

Actually, there are only certain dealerships and certain techs that are allowed to deal with the GT-R. You will deal directly with the service manager whenever you bring in the car and he, the owner and the GT-R certified techs are the only ones allowed to drive or work on the car. Nissan has tried pretty hard to make the GT-R buyer feel like he/she is getting a better service experience than the "normal" Nissan buyer.

I never quite figured out why Nissan decided to put the GTR under their Nissan brand vs Infinity... Wasn't that the whole point of the Infinity brand? To provide a luxury level of service to capture that market who buys mid-upper end cars?
Another good reason to wait is to see what the 2012 M3 will offer, I am really hoping for some kind of performance package or upgrade being available. I think it would be worth the cost to BMW to do that because the competition is so close on the M3 right now that providing this would probably save enough sales to pay for it. I'm sure a lot of the R&D can be stolen from their race teams GT builds.

shift@red, i haven't driven gtr or 997.1 turbo, but I remember reading somewhere that the gtr was actually more fun to drive than the 997.1 turbo. it has less lag, steering felt more direct, handle better, etc. that's what I remember when I read that mag awhile ago.
i have no doubt the new 997.2 turbo is a much better car though but you pay dearly for it when buying new. |

I have a 997.1 TT and its more fun to drive than my GTR but its not easier. The reward of understanding rear engine bias and the chassis is well worth the learning experience in the 997. But I still cant drive the 997 to the limits of the GTR. Faster in, thru, and out of the turns; these are some of the performance benefits of the GTR. In the GTR, I feel like Im in a big shell whereas in the 997TT I feel Im part of the car. So while I can go faster in the GTR and launch quicker, speed is not the only facet. Steering to me is about equal and braking does slightly favor the GTR. But being part of car versus feeling inside one gives the nod to the 997. These are my opinions. For a DD or only one car, the 997 is the easy no brainer and so is the M3 but for a 2nd, 3rd or etc car the GTR is very hard to beat.
