Arrow Sell the M for a CLK BS or wait for the C63 BS?

Hey Guys -

I am in need of all your opinions. The speed bug has bit me (again), and I am looking to change things up possibly. I am selling my 2011.5 M3 and I am on the fence of a) buying a low mileage CLK 63 BS or putting cash down on a C63 BS at a local dealer.

I have always been in love with the CLK since I first set my eyes on it back in 2008, and now they are something that is within reach with being around $70 - $80K. The second option is going for the C63 BS (top of my budget).

A bit of background: I have recently bought a 2012 C63 Edition One (wife's car), and now that I have driven that torque monster, I am hooked on it. Granted, once you get into the high RPM range on the M, it takes off, and drives like a dream, but it's not the same as the C63 (torque monster). This has lead me to look for something that has a but more "punch".

I have also considered just keeping the M (which I still love to drive), and adding a ESS 575 supercharger, but then you run into warranty issues. I also only keep my cars for about a 1 - 2 years at the most.

I am aware that asking this question on M3post with have answers leaning towards the M, but I am curious of the communities viewpoint. We are all car enthusiasts, and I do believe that we all can understand that when the (mod/speed bug) bites, sometimes it's hard to break away from its grasp.

Thanks for the help.

If you are going to be selling the car soon, I would not modify it because you don't recoup your losses. Continuing on with that thought, I would buy a CLK63 BS because it's already slightly used and when you turn around and sell it in a year, you won't take as big as of a hit.

I'd say the CLK 63 AMG.

I love the CLK BS but if you are worried about warranty...they have already expired on the BS by now or only have a fewmonths left. You can't get a C63 BS as they are all already spoken for.... and are $110K to boot.

For $80K, the CLK BS would be on my list but not above a 997 Turbo.

I was thinking about getting a short term extended warranty. As for a Porsche, I have never driven a P-car (i know, crazy), but i just saw the new 2012 Carrera (non-turbo), and I must say, it looks damn good.

BTW, my E92 AW M before I added the Matte Black BBS CH-R's: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=482854

Saw one in person and it was amazing! That would be the AMG for me lol The new C63 BS from pictures does look pretty sharp, need to see one in person. Tough call

if you can afford the $ on the C63 BS, I'd get that, else, the CLK63 AMG is in the $70k range now. Hard to pass up.

I woudl say the updated MCT in the C63 and refreshed interior and exterior are very attractive features to go with C63 BS

yeah, the CLK63 BS depreciation is insane. I'd think the C63 BS will take a similar hit. If you can lease the C63 BS, do it as a short-term solution.

As a guy that owned a CLK63 BS I would advise buying an M3 or a C63.
A CLK63 BS is a completely impractical car that is most likely out of warranty(and warranty issues aren't cheap on that car).
You get the same engine in the C63 with all of the creature comforts, warranty, and a better transmission. I would guess an M3 or C63 would perform as well as a CLK63 Black at most performance disciplines.

C63 BS looks like an Accord coupe with a body kit and a hideous wing. Not worth it for $110k.

Great Question -

I test drove the 2012 GT-R, and while it was extremely fast exciting to drive, I did not like the interior at all. It felt very cheap and plastic-ish. I had a 350Z that I had tracked before, and honestly, the GT-R had a very similar quality feel. I guess I have been spoiled with the Merc and BMW interiors over the last few years. I figure if I am going to spend $80K+ on a car, I want it to have a quality feel and be built with quality materials rather than plastic, unless of course it is a all out track toy....then that bitch should be stripped down!

Follow-up, Porsche? 991 Carrera S?

The reason I'm pressing is that I think you need to jump up a class, the M3 is a great car in it's class, stepping up a performance group would be my suggestion...

The new 991 looks fantastic with great performance.....they are so damn expensive though. With any options you are at $100K+ which is why I mentioned the 3-4 year old 997 Turbo.

Sweet pics of the M and R8

No kidding they're out of control. When I picked up my Cayenne they had a Carrera S demo on the floor. With few options it was $112k.

Porsche's insane pricing is one of the big reasons I have stuck with the GTR.
They had a 997 Turbo S and 997GT3RS 4.0 too.

You should prob test drive one. I agree with Nine that you should move up to Porsche if Finance is no concern. The new 991 would be my choice to replace my M3 if not for the ridiculous pricing. Maybe the upcoming Cayman would be more palatable.
