I was in a situation where I got the car back after it was programmed and it had an extra 35 miles on it. I brought this up to the service manager and he swore up and down that the car was not taken out nor did it leave the lot. Now, he could have lied to me but he also mentioned that the shop foreman told him about the miles being added to the car. I verified this information with another m3post member. If you have anything else to the contrary, please share.

Oh yea, on my 650i. I had a wind noise that wasn't replicated easily, or so they say. The tech put 88 miles and the issue wasn't fixed! I send a complain to bmwna. From then on, I drive a little more to service at another dealer.

I think that sort of thing is pretty tightly regulated, just like the speedometer. Odometer cant be affected by battery loss, reprogramming, electrical work, etc by law, although obviously there is an electrical component that stores the odometer reading, it's just isolated.

With a DCT it is pretty much impossible for them to hurt your car unless they hit something or run over some pothole. The revs are even somewhat restricted when it's cold. Now a 6MT they could money shift, burn the clutch, or grind gears (in addition to them scraping crashing denting it which a DCT can also fall victim for). Which is why I'm always paranoid about servicing my car...

Maybe I am unusual and just think its just a car, but I don't mind if the service department puts miles on it. I just got it back with 56 miles on it more than I dropped it off. I had a brake problem that would pop up in weird conditions. They noticed it and fixed it. Trust and verify is what I live by.

When I take my car in for service the mileage is noted right on the sheet that details what services will be done to the car. So I always know how many miles are put on it I leave it there.

ask the poor soul on the M5board what they did to his E60 M5 on "test" drive after a routine maintenance service....its all over the internet.
I understand that even w/a GT1 computer, when it comes to a CEL, you need to hook up the thing after the light is thrown....BUT...I had an issue like that and after 100 miles and 4 tries they could not fix it!....only on the 5th try whatever they did seem to work.

Somebody's messing with you Beck. I just had my oil changed today and ZERO additional miles. No reason for an oil change to require any added mileage. You sure they didn't update software or something else?

that sucks maybe if you try driving the car in reverse, it'll roll back the odometer. then everyone can pretend the whole thing never happened

My supporting claim is that the gas tank was exactly where I left off. I don't know what to make of this. Anyway, if they were feeding me BS, which is likely considering they have screwed up my other service visits then don't go to BMW of Morristown in NJ.

I knew a guy that used to own a B5 S4 avant. A tech took the car to run an errand (from Pasadena to Glendale which is about 10 miles if not more). Long story short, he totaled the car driving 110 mph.
I would seriously warn the dealer: drive it over 5 miles and you are paying a rent fee.

First time they put 20 miles. I did not complain. Second time 25 miles, still did not complain. Third time 101 miles. I yelled at SA as much as I could. I reported to BMWNA. Never going back to those a**holes again.

man, I would've done the same thing too: yell and complain to BMWNA; but then again BMWNA sometimes don't give a rat's ass.

My first oil change with the break-in oil has pretty high milage.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=288639

But after that...all servicing seems to be ok...so far.

Mileage

I had the same thing happen to me. I dropped my car off for the 1200 mile service and they gave me a rental because they were behind that day. They called me towards the end of the day and said it was ready. The tech said pick it up in the morning since I was an hour away and they will have it waiting for me. I thought better of it and went there with them still thinking I was coming in the morning. When I got to the dealership, I didn't see my car. Five minutes later I see the sales manager pull into the dealership with a sheepish look on his face while I'm standing there with my arms folded.
