I grew up driving light cars, then racing Formula Fords in SCCA, etc. So that's just what I like - light, simple, etc. But those days are over, I'm married with a 16 month old now. I'll keep the M3 until he's about 4, at which point I'll most likely get a Porsche again (I had 2 before), since I can drive them all year round on streets, and on the track, and fit him in the back seat since he'll be a bit older and getting in/out won't require 4 doors anymore. If I was very rich, I'd get the Turbo, but I'm not. I'll probably get the C2S. Mid-engine, RWD cars (that are in my price range) like the Exige, Cayman, just have no room for more than 2. 911 is the only solution and I like them (with all their quirks, etc.). Life is always some sort of compromise, no?

I think the new CTS-V is about to be the best in this class IMO.....

The CTS-V is in the same class as the M5 and E63 technically.

Yep - look at how much it weighs! It's a damn boat. No thanks. Same with the M5.

Yeah I'm in the same boat too. I want a car that is near 3,000 pounds (give or take 100), 300-400 HP, and about that in torque. The C6 Vette, and 911 so far are the only cars that seem to come close to those specifications.

Um, ok, its a damn boat that will flat embarass the M3 around any racetrack...

Yes, but oh so different to drive! Depends what you like/prefer. C6 is not as fun for all around driving as the 911 is to me. But a fun car for sure.

Hmm, interesting. I have experience with the C6, the acceleration makes me light headed, and the handling made my guts wrench. It was a physical experience.

I test drove the 911 S, and it didn't feel nearly as powerful, but it did feel a bit more nimble.

I still have a few months to make a decision though.

You are in an envious position! Drive them both some more. 911 is definitely more nimble, and the C6 definitely more like a rocket. For me, more nimble = more fun, but that's just me. Also in the snow, the 911 is more practical - if it applies to you. With snow tires of course. I also think the C6 is easier to push and more forgiving on the track. But if you are comfortable with the 911 platform, you can drive the hell out of those cars, and push them around places you wouldn't think.

+1. I've driven my friends' M5, E55, and CLS55. They were fast, but the size was just too big for me and the weight was really obvious.

Well the E92 is going to the parents, their 2000 Sentra is about... dead.

The system can be defeated with a button. What's not to like about it? That's what I'm trying to figure out. It's simply a convenience, nothing more, nothing less. On the track it's a boon. In daily driving it simplifies things. If you want to have fun, turn it off.

There are zero downsides from what I can see.
Man the downside is that it is made for idiots that cannot drive. imagine if they put a gps system on your car that could drive itself around the track in the fastest possible way without your input. would you want that? NO, because the point of driving is for the driver to make decisions and prove his skills, not for the car to do everything for you.

Go tell that to all the professional racers who use paddles to shift their gears.

People on this forum often confuse or interchange racing cars with driving cars. This is about a street car - not a race car....When racing, you do everything you can to shave of time. In street driving it doesn't matter.

Not even comparable. That's like trying to compare shooting a baby to stealing candy from one.
