After a pleasant evening out with the wife I was driving home when I encountered an idiot in a very jacked up truck. (Remember this is Texas). When I signaled to move into his lane the moron attempted to cut me off so I floored it and moved into the lane. At this point the guy is trying to keep up with me and when I get on the feeder to enter the freeway he is swerving around traffic and driving like a maniac to stay with me. Once he was close I took a very fast right turn off the feeder and when he attempted to follow me it looked like he would roll his truck. Fortunately, he missed the turn and I was free of this fucking idiot. Rant over.

Yeah it happens all too often. Nowadays, I don't put my signal on until the instan I initiate the lane change, when I I have enough room and can do so safely. Too many jackasses that try to box you out as soon as when they know you want to get in front of them.

That's one of the many problems with some AMerican drivers, they have a complex when driving and just will not give an inch.

I don't know if people are more courteous in Europe, but that's just how it goes here..... Gotta take your spots.

i had a similar encounter a few days ago.

some redneck ogre got mad because i pulled in front of him and another car, likely viewing it as me cutting him off when it wasnt even close to that.

he procedes to pull up next to me, screaming something, wanting to fight...
then he decides to swerve though the middle of two lanes, trying to cut me off anytime i tried passing him for about three miles til he took an exit.

Here in Germany, you better be on your game since you will encounter every type of driver imaginable almost on a daily basis.

Northern VA drivers are some of the worst I've encountered. Not only are they HORRENDOUS drivers, in that they drive 10mph under the speed limit in the left lane and won't move over when you're behind them (among many other things), but they also stick so close to the bumper in front of them so others don't get into their lane, that half the time it ends up in fender benders that make the already miserable traffic even worse because those morons don't move their freaking cars off the road. Instead, they sit their in the middle of the road and hold up traffic like a bunch of f**k heads. God this area really sucks for driving...

This is a major reason I will debadge. It's still a bimmer, though, and that's the only reason most people need to hate on us.

My A4 is debadged, but that's just because I saw so many debadged cars in Germany that I decided I liked the look.

The flipside is that I make a point not to drive like an asshat. I move over or speed up so people can merge or pass a slower driver. I move over so they can pass me. I give people plenty of time to move over before passing on the right. I don't even flash my headlights, any more, as I find it's counterproductive. I even try to avoid passing people at a much higher speed. And around big trucks, I try to avoid making them apply their brakes.

My big weakness is around any vehicle that's either hauling debris or has been off road. I have very little patience for sitting in a shower of pebbles. And still, I've literally had paint chips down to the bare metal on my roof!

My other weakness is that I like to get in ahead of people on exit ramps. Since I learned how to apex a turn, following the typical driver in a typical car through a cloverleaf interchange feels like an eternity.

Another thing I try to do is de-escalate. If someone gives me the finger (rare, but it's happened), I shrug or wave.

If you answer aggression with yet more aggression, it rarely leads anyplace good. You just have to consider that this person has a problem and not let it become your problem, as well. If they keep acting out, their number will eventually come up.

Oh, and if you experience anything truly dangerous, call 911. I've been advised by a law enforcement officer that if you notify them while the incident is in progress, they can intercept the problem vehicle. Reporting after the fact, they likely can't/won't do anything. I wonder if video would make any difference there.

While I agree with your rational approach, please understand this idiot could have rolled over me. I am not exaggerating, his center of gravity appeared higher than my roofline. I didn't want to find out how crazy this imbecile was so I decided to leave this inbred behind.

It's funny how we can all be so courteous on the track, or off road. Follow the rules, everyone waves at the other 4x4's. Yet the same people on the highway act like fools. I think it's our competitive nature combined with ego.

A big #1 on that. It's funny, I live right on the Dutch border, and the Dutch are horrible drivers. A joke here in Germany is "if a driver fails his driving test twice they issue them yellow license plates (Dutch plates are yellow, German are white).

The cars that seem to drive the fastest on the autobahn are BMW/Audi/Mercedes Station Wagons...usually black or silver (most cars here are black, Grey, or silver)

After I put about a kilometer on them I fall back to my cruising speed of 130KPH

In an M3 I drive to the point where someone wants to cut me off or screw with me I'm already past them before they realize it. Drunk dude the other day with Oregon plates was all over the road. I attempted to pass him on the left but he just drifted over into my lane. I backed off then waited for an opening and I was gone. I saw him in my rear view driving by brail left and right and so forth endangering other cars.

I disagree. It was rare to find a retared driver over there. Over here...it's rare not to run into one.
