Damn New Tires

My car has 3,1xx miles on it on two track days under its belt. The front tires are pretty badly feathered at the edges, but figured I would be ok. The steering wheel vibrates a decent amount especially under braking. Thought it might be wheel weights, brakes/rotors, or the tires (in that order). Put my car on the lift and took off the wheels to take a look, and the fronts were beaten up pretty bad. Besides the feathering the tread in the middle is pretty gone, but more importantly it's extremely rugged and not smooth. I know the stock tires aren't perfect for tracking, but I was hoping they would last me through at least 2 track days. I will only be swapping out the fronts as the rears are still in really good condition.

Did your car come with the PS2, the Pirellis, or the Contis?

What tire pressure were you running at the track hot?

High wear in the center? Were your tires overinflated? The vibration could be caused by pick-up on the tires or brake pad material on the rotors. Give it a few days and see if it goes away.

What track were you running? Given the high wear and your FL address, I'm going to guess it was Sebring - I'll bet turn 17 could do that to your tires.

Tried to keep them around 32 psi all day.

maybe I need to invest in a new tire pressure reader . The track day was 2 weeks ago, and it was at homestead. After my first track day I knew it was the brake pads and that took a couple of days, but this is significantly different.

If you take a street tire to the track, be prepared for the possibility that they may wind up a mess by the end of the day. Even if they're not corded or anything, the high temperatures can cause the surface of the tire to get a bit 'melty' and then when they harden they are not smooth. This would be considered normal for track use.

As noted above, you might want to run a little less pressure up front to get rid of that center wear. Although that can add understeer, so maybe take a little out of the rear as well if you do. Or add some negative camber up front to kill the understeer. Although then you'll wear the inside edges in regular commuting... I'll stop now, long and short of it is pretty much everything's a tradeoff

The tread on my tires will feel like its shifted where each of the tread blocks are low on one edge and higer on the other.

Normal for track use and you WILL experience some extra noise and vibration afterwards. As long as you have decent tread, they will still work fine on the track.

I'm waiting for my track wheels/tires to come in, so these will no longer be used for tracking. Considering how few miles I put on my car it would most likely take me months to "smooth" out the wheels.
