Rear View Mirror

Just noticed - the e92 doesn't have the sweet oval rear view mirror like the e46.

All the pics I have seen seem to have the standard "squared edge" item.

Think BMW missed a trick there!

The E46 M3 changed from oval to rectangular during the model run. I think it was when they added BMW Assist.

Yeah, I miss it too- just one more thing to differentiate it from it's lesser siblings.

Hopefully the "F" series models starting with the next M5 in 2013 ( wow- the new M5 is that far away?!) will have it.

IMHO, the oval shape is less functional than the standard shape mirror because there is less surface area.

That said, I admit I prefer the oval simply because it looks cool!

No, it's not. The new 5 series will be released in 2010, with the M5 in 2011.

Correct, fall of 2010 the new 5 will arrive on U.S. shores as an 2011 model which means the new M5 won't be here until fall of 2012 2years later- as an 2013 model...

This matches the fall of 2003 5series debut in the U.S. and then the 2 year wait for the M5 we had until the fall of 05'.

Always takes 2 years once the initial model hits for the "M" to debut here in the states.

Remember- we don't get things as fast as you Euro's do...........
