tire pressure monitor too sensitive?

My indicator went off a couple weeks ago and indeed, my tire pressure was down by a pound or two psi in all 4 tires - but only by a pound or two...

Is the monitor supposed to be this sensitive? I realize these are racing tires but is it critical that they stay at optimal pressure all the time? If so, is it just as big a problem to over-inflate by a pound or two? Very hard to be exact.

I believe it's sensitive, but the cold weather doesn't help either for that matter. Just check to make sure your tire(s) doesn't have a nail in it.

Mine came on one time when it was at 26, and just recently it came on and it was at 30.

Whereas I have it set to 35/37 (cold)

I know it's in the manual somewhere, but how do you reset the pressure?

You can do it through the Idrive menu, under setting or via the button on the dash next to the hazards.

Hold the reset button near center of dash for 4 seconds after starting car, before moving.

"Get a electronic tire pressure guage"

That won't help when trying to put exact pressure back in unless it's somehow attached to your compressor, will it?

No doubt, this all started after the weather turned.

Mine's actually not very sensitive wished it was more. I want to be warned when it drops 2 or 3 psi, but so far i've seen my tires psi drop 3 psi without warning. So I just monitor my tire pressure manually.

I feel that when it gets cold it fucks with the sensors. Mine never went off in the summer, but have gone off twice now when temps were below 50 at night.

The rule of thumb is for every 10° Fahrenheit change in air temperature, your tire's inflation pressure will change by about 1 psi

You can't 'reset' that. The sensors go off at about 30 psi. What you 'reset' is a feature called 'flat warning', which works off the ABS speed sensors (when a tire is near or flat, it rotates less than the others, and the ABS computer picks that up). With TPMS, no need to mess with that at all IMO. Car was developed before TPMS was mandated by the government, and it was the next best thing, but now that TPMS is mandatory, my guess is future cars won't have that now redundant feature. worth the money you can also purchase a separate piece that makes filling
mindless. notice they make a few different models due to specific tire pressure,
you want the black one (3-60 psi).
