Ugh--because I know you're about to do something realllly stupid I feel obligated to keep another M on the road by writing this post.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every engine in the world takes a certain octane to perform at it's best. End of story. The idea that "it requires 93 but 100 or 108 or something higher MUST be better" is ludacrious. Don't think in term of octane ratings-if it helps, think in terms of gasoline and diesel. 93 octane = gasoline and anything higher or lower = diesel.

You wouldn't put diesel in your car would you? Exactly.

And everything I just said is irrelevant if you have a worked engine.

Uh...ok. You are aware that 93 isn't available at the pump nationwide right?

Yes, but that isn't the point of the post. OP questions if said octane is "bad for the engine"

sooooooo

My response was letting him know that yes, it is BAD and went so far as to let him know what is BEST for the engine.

Any other problems?

***Edit***

I'm more curious/concerned with where he's buying 100 octane.

If I need 93 for my car and 91 is all that's available, I guess I'll have to put some diesel in. As soon as you explain how it's "bad", the problem will be solved.

Please put diesel -actual not metaphorical- diesel in your car.

I was illustrating a point that 93 octane is optimal and anything less or more is sub-optimal.

If a person asks about 100 octane being good for an engine, I'll go so far as to illustrate a more understandable example by bringing the comparison of diesel into the equation.

This was all clear the first time around. Hope your day gets better because I can tell you're in a mood.

^This..there is actually some head room to advance timing on the stock ECU setup if you use higher octane..and the M3's 12-1 compression engine always respond better to high octane..

Just dont expect immediate or dramatic results..it takes time for the ecu to adapt to the higher octane

Sorry there Major General but if you got a problem with me or what I said, PM me. Although, I gotta think if a metaphor is beyond you-then your problem isn't with me, rather your english teacher of your last completed educational level.

OP hope it helped. I know now metaphors aren't for everyone-and for that, I'm sorry.

Oh, I got your wonderful comparison to diesel. I'm just glad you're not the one I take tuning advice from.

Well you've been a huge help thus far. All you've done is make a quick sarcastic reply to the OP and been a prick to me. What advice do you actually have to offer? After all-that's what forums are for. You should know, you have over 5k posts.

Listen, you wanna feel big on the internet forums then god bless but do it in your california group. Otherwise fly into newark (ewr), I'll pay for your ticket and let's just say for the sake of not getting kicked off the forum....you won't feel so big anymore. Take it easy, I'll give you a shout next time I'm in California.

You are so wrong its sad.

OP, you can buy it in 5 gallon drums (vp109, vp street blaze, etc...) at SKSPEED in long island (they have two shops). There is also a shitty looking gas station off the southern state that sells cam2 100 octane. Make sure you get unleaded. Dont expect a huge difference if your not tuned for it, but there is definitely some headroom in the timing tables of the stock ecu mapping and you can definitely squeeze out a little more when the ecu automatically advances timing etc...

All I've done was try to get you to explain yourself other than using some random comparison between gasoline and diesel. So either you don't know what you're talking about or you can't give an explanation. Either are no help.

It gets old with the whole muscle flex of the "come out here and say that".

I have VP deliver 100 to my shop in 54 gal drums. Seems that finding places that have it at the pump are few and far between anymore.
