6MT, after driving both and analyzing for months, going back and forth, and then reading this thread and realizing the same thing would happen to me eventually.

The reason I got 6MT is because I learned on a stick, my Dad drove MT, and my uncle drove MT. And I thought they were pretty f**kin cool (all 3: Dad, uncle, and MT).

So I wouldn't have even looked at an auto.

That said, when I bought my M3 I didn't even know what a DCT was. Now that I've read about it I would have tried it too.

I just plain love a standard, but I don't know any better...

Bought a DCT without even test driving it. No regrets. Stupid quick shifts. The hype is all true. Love it.

I chose DCT because I broke my left ankle and damaged my achilles tendon...no more MT for me sadly.

I had 4 6mt e92M and I wanted to give the DCT try this go around since it was going to be the last chance I had to do so.

Having had 5-sp and 6-sp manuals, SMG and now DCT in my string of M-Cars, I prefer the automated manuals from a "hi-tech" feeling standpoint as well as the practical usability advantage (puttering through traffic and blasting down the highway). I'm not a "race car driver" trying to shave tenths of a second off my grocery run times, so I don't see the slight weight penalty as a worthy concern. I don't buy into the "connectedness" argument either. I prefer the immediacy of the automated unit to the mechanics of rowing the gears.

Well said. I just love the feel of the manual. Who cares if DCT is faster what I want is to enjoy shifting even if it to head to the grocery store.

I went with a 6mt because this will be my weekend car and I will be driving it for pure pleasure. I have no doubts about how great DCT is, and would have gone that route if this was going to be my DD.

DCT is one of the things that makes this car different and special, as does CF roof.

For a greater degree of involvement with this incredible machine. Didn't want my left leg to feel left out.

Dual-clutch systems are great technology, here to stay, and will only get better.

That said, good luck getting a true manual transmission with a naturally-aspirated ///M V8 ever again... Mine's a keeper.

This. I've had MT for most of my cars but I am actually happy that I got DCT this time.

DCT, because the better half also wants to drive the M. In my opinion the DCT is definitely better as an all around tranny.

I can't believe this hasn't been said yet. I got the dct so that I can slap my kids in back when they act up while rolling up to a stop sign or whatever the situation may be. Haha just joking. i don't have kids. I got the dct for the wife. She knows how to drive a manual but we wanted to try something new. We enjoy it.

After 20 years of only driving manual I got DCT primarily so that my wife can drive it as well. Otherwise I would have gotten manual. Now I had DCT for a while my next car will likely be DCT as well - it is just a much better (IMO) transmission.

DCT, because stop and go traffic is a thing, and the 1-2 on 6MT is like pulling teeth.
