To polish/compound - 5-6 highest setting
To spread wax/glaze/sealant - 2-3 setting

Side not though...always start with the pad on the surface you're working on and the DA off at that point. Move the speed up to the setting you want only when it's touching surface.

Thanks. I was watching a youtube video and the dude recommended no higher than 1 for waxing. Is that too slow?

I assume you do the cross hatch method?

The speed really depends on the exact model of DA you're using. The actual RPM's vary by vendor. Cross hatch where possible, but some panels you can't, so just spread it best you can.

I’ve had the Griots 6” for about a decade. I’ve used it to polish cars and even used it as an orbital sander on hard woods with 6” sanding pads.

I’ve literally abused it and still works fine. Good machine.

I had to return one Griots 6" because it got so weak I could stop it by pinching the pad with my bare hand. The replacement Griots sent me is better, but it still bogs down when pressure is applied. It's okay for my personal use, but I wouldn't recommend it for a serious detailer....and it looks like you all know that!
