New DCT Problem (sudden upshift)
This happened this weekend at an autocross. I wonder if this has happened to anyone else.
During a transition from a left turn to a right hairpin during braking, the car will upshift from 2nd gear to 6th or 7th gear on his own. It did this at every run (total of 12 runs), with the exception of the runs where I drove a slower pace through the same section to avoid the problem. DCT was off, the problem happened with S3/S4 and S6 modes. I did not try the D (Automatic) modes. ECU in comfort, suspension in sport. By the way, the car did not downshift from 3rd to 2nd gear at the two turns that I needed to downshift. It did it in the middle of the turn, throwing away my balance.

I have experienced mine skipping 2nd. On full accel, when attempting to paddle shift from 1 to 2, it would straight up skip 2nd. I was able to repeat it several times and was SURE that I did not double click the paddle. My car has only skipped 2nd, and went into 3rd. Yours going all the way to 6th is the first I have heard of.

I haven´t experienced any up or downshifts in the S mode except when you are slowing the car to a stop or the gear is to high for the speed and it downshits. That pretty much it.
You asked for it. Best Regards, Maika

wow, that is a very interesting issue. the DCT refusing to downshift prior to a turn is not a new one, but i haven't heard of this before...hopefully it can be resolved, because that sounds very wrong.

I had another weird thing going on at turn 14 at Thunderhill - car stayed in 4th gear and wouldn't accept any throttle input I had to shift into N and than back into gear to get it going again - once I post the videos you can clearly see it

My car is still at the shop with 4 or 5 (forgot how many) issues related to drivability. Stalling, ignored shift commands, skipping gears, no response from throttle input, etc.. I believe I have experienced all but ignored downshift commands under heavy braking (prolly because I have not tracked the car yet). They have started a PuMA case and I sit and wait for a fix. It appears that they are relying on the "update" to fix these issues. I have my doubts that all of these things will be addressed by the update as I heard there is yet another in the works already. But I have my fingers crossed that it gets resolved. I bought the car to drive and enjoy, not sit at the dealer. If this does not get resolved in 30 calendar days, as required by California Lemon Law, I will probably give up and order an '09 and hope that one is "correct" when it arrives. On a side note, the California Lemon Law was updated a few years ago to add a clause that if it is a "serious safety issue", the car can be lemoned after two failed repair attempts. This is the second visit to the dealer to resolve these issues. I consider it a serious safety issue when I have my daughter in the car, pull out to cross the street, and the car stalls! This has happened a few times! I ended up parking the car until the dealer was able to provide a loaner vehicle! Not safe to drive, period. If it does not get fixed, I am not sure what I will do...the only other requirment of ME is to send a letter to the "manufacturer" to advise them of these issues. I am drafting a letter today just to comply with the Lemon Law criteria, just in case it comes to that. But I would rather just have it fixed correctly and be back in my car! I will keep the forum updated with progress, info, etc. as it becomes available....

The indication I got was BMW expects the SW update to address this. I had the car in twice. 1st time they replaced a bunch of sensors and generally seemed to be guessing. 2nd trip, they downloaded the data and then told me BMW expects the SW update to fix the issue.

You make it really hard to respect you. If you don't like DCT cars, why can you not simply ignore the threads?

Good news is that being as I do, my car may be THE car for them to monkey with to figure it out! lol I still have faith they will get it sorted. If not, I will just have to Lemon it and get an '09 and hope it is sorted by then. I aint stressing too hard off of it. Guess I am pretty easy-going! I have faith they will handle it one way or the other, so its just a matter of time at this point.

There is a campaign out to upgrade the DCT software. Any cars going in for running in service are upgraded. During this upgrade it rewrites something like 10 difference computers and takes anything between 4-6 hours.
The DCT software has been out only for a week or so. So if you have a DCT car go and get it fixed.
