I have a pt. that requests a certain manufacturer of vicodin, Mallencroft (?) and I'm wondering if it's because it's worth more on the street. HE says it's because he's allergic to a certain dye in generic hydrocodone.

I don't think it's worth more on the street and tend to discount these types of allergy claims. It's possible but most patients have a specific generic they prefer and I don't indulge that and will only order what is the company preferred product.

I just noticed you liked sigs, since you put a sig in your sig.

Love it!

+1, it doesn't help that you go in for a paper cut and get offered percocet. People are just pussies now.

I only give narcotics for acute postoperative pain, #25 to go home with after C/S or hysterectomy. That's it...

http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2012/02/...tion-kill.html

statidfied patients get narcotics, test/imaging and procedures....which are seldom needed

Endometrial hyperplasia? if so, then an excess of estrogen and the absence of a progesterone withdrawal bleed...very treatable with progestins, OCPs, progestin IUD or hysterectomy (given the patients wishes)

My lady friend is 35... Two kids... No wishes for any more. Used to have really crazy and irregular periods which is currently being "tamed" with an IUD and birth control pills. She's been asking for a hysterectomy for years and her doc keeps saying no. What's the best way to influence her doc? She's down with periods... They're bad enough to make her go insane.

She should have either a vag hyst or laparoscopic hyst. She needs to find a high volume surgeon. She needs to talk with the physician and tell him/her that she wants a hyst or a referral to another physician.

Also, I have said this before, but this is a great thread to have here. Thank you for it. I've had the worst experiences but the results are epic. I also know that my bad would've been worse without the great people around me.

The numbers here are probably close to 10% in my practice. I try to get most of my patients off SSRI's despite the lack of good evidence that they do harm. It's a sad reality of the current tone of the country. Here's a taste.

In my area, heroin is very prevalent along with prescription drug abuse. Plus, all of the women in recovery on methadone, subutex or Suboxone. It's all crazy. So many drug addicted babies that go into withdrawl. It's so sad...

Yeah, I babysat a heroin baby all spring from the day he got out of hospital. The pure hate I developed towards the mom was scary.

Really? What kind of dog? I've never heard of one before.

I don't know how the expecting moms handle their usage. The first timers I almost can rationalize since my tiny issues with morning sickness (all day sickness from even before making a positive test to a week after birth) made me swear I will never ever have sex again, or even try to go through with a pregnancy. Kiddo popped out, and a week later I was sure I wanted more. I at least had no clue how much a kid would mean to me, maybe their issue is similar.

The pure horror of realizing that something I must have done caused my son to be missing an ear changed me a lot. I still wake up with nightmares of his first night and me reading all about the stuff it can be related to. One article said that some drugs cause it to happen. More recent research says its a common cold mishap.

The maybes are the worst. Maybe if I had stuck with the antinausea meds given to me, my immune system would've been better and maybe I hadn't had a cold (I don't even remember being sick). Maybe I should've stayed inside the house more, and there was this guy with a running nose working in my hardware store once and he helped me out...

The reasonable part of me accepts that I can't change anything and it wasn't my fault. My son is completely happy and mostly healthy trouble maker, but the nightmares still show up at times. I have a hard time understanding how anyone, even a first timer would risk a life time of this on purpose.

The "dog police" knocked on the front door one Saturday, and my son answers the door with said dog in his arms. Cost my wife (I wasn't home) $120, double since he caught us. Now every year, I gotta pay for the privilege of having my dog, AND they will force me to get shots for her as well.

Dads go thru that same "what if" scenario all the time. What if I had taken a stronger stand against my wife and not taken him to the ER when I KNEW it was just croup and sounded horrible, but wasn't really life-threatening or anything. I still hold this horror image of me holding my ~18 month old son down so the nurses could draw blood from his tiny veins AFTER that had already diagnosed and treated him for the croup/flu. The tears in his eyes, the pleading look in his face when he TRUSTED me to protect him

AND I FUCKING FAILED!!!!!!
