according to this: http://www.bimmercenter.com/article_001_name.html
it should be Bimmer for cars and Beemer (or Beamer) for bikes...

just an fyi RE: beemer vs. bimmer...
http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/referen...er-beemer.aspx I do use the appropriate term when need to be, but most of the time I say "BMW". Bimmer just seems like such a yuppy term...

Agreed, even though it is correct in the BMW circle, I have never heard Bimmer.

Yep, Bimmer=car and Beemer=motorcycle.
But to me it's always been more of a spelling thing because I think they should be pronounced the same (despite what some, and the links above, may say). What really bugs me is when people say BM. It's not a damn BM, it's a BMW.

Who calls our cars by "BM"??? Where I'm from a "BM" is a "Bowel Movement".
I just say BMW.

I think he's talking about pronounciation, not how it is spelled; bimmer (like simmer) or bee-mer. We all should know it is spelled "bimmer" for BMW cars. I pronounce bimmer as bee-mer.

Yep. What I was saying is that no matter how ya spell it, "bee-mer" should be the pronunciation. But Bimmer is definitely the correct spelling for our M3s.

the colloquial use in the states is "beamer." "beamer" is used even in main stream media, in such songs as:
"beamer benz and bentley" and "fancy" if you say "bimmer," even at dealerships, people will look at you kind of funny. but, dealerships ironically are not the most knowledgeable people when it comes to cars. lol. |
