I would prefer the larger tach in the center as well.

I agree. Every time I look down at it, I refuse to believe that I am going that fast. I just ignore it now. Who needs a speedometer anyway?

I'd sell a car that had sort of glaring issue. Think I'll put mine on eBay tonight.

My Mk6 GTI went to that was annoying. I bet that car couldn't even do 150 stock.

I'm able to estimate what's 1/2, 3/8, 1/10, ect between the lines regardless of their distance apart. Sorry you can't do so.

You know it is so hard for me to get annoyed from anything in my car after pushing the gas pedal and hearing the engine! I absolutely love my car!

I'm not annoyed by the scale, but definitely annoyed by the freaking dark red needles on my '08 that are all but invisible in daylight. I see those pictured are A LOT brighter; guess BMW changed that. Also annoyed A LOT by the position of the speedo and tach, both being blocked by the steering wheel the top 1/3, making them even more useless.

So yes, a central tach with a digital window just below the needle would have been PERFECT to me (similar to the F430, but with no little window above neddle, and digital speedo on the lower one ). I HATE gauges with a central digital display and needle only visible at the perimeter, a la MB. Oh well. We have a great car, and no car is perfect, so no complains here. But criticism is important for future development; we'll see if BMW was listening or not .

I know the gauges are different in Canadian vehicles, I wonder if the needles are too? I have absolutely no visibility issues with my needles in daylight

My issue with about every speedo on the face of the planet is after adjusting my seat and the steering wheel the top of the speedo is blocked from my vision by the steering wheel. The top of the speedo is where the freeway speeds are generally located. Problem was solved in my 545i with the HUD, but the M3 has no HUD. I turned the little digital speedo on, but it is too small. My brothers GT3 has a nice sized digital speed readout dead center that solves the problem. I wish the digital speed readout was larger in the M3 so a quick glance could more easily give me my speed. Right now I feel my eyes are off the road for too long when checking speed.

Porsche does it better. Also incredibly annoying that the low fuel indicator shuts down the digital speed reading.
Precisely! The low fuel tank warning can be toggled off for a while by pushing in that button on the left stalk until the gas gets to a certain low level. At that point you pretty much have to rely on the analog version because the toggling only lasts a few seconds once it reaches that low level. Porsche's digital display size is so easy to read that I never use the analog speedometer in mine.

you're right, i'm stupid, I have the IQ of a retarded infant chimp. No one else in the thread is bothered by it as show by the previous 58 posts. Mods, we should close this.

I actually noted this when I got the car as an example of the thought BMW puts into their design.

The other designs you posted are far worse for your complaint, not sure what your logic is, or lack thereof.

OP you may have discovered through this thread that you have difficulty interpreting simple visual indicators of this type. I am the same way with a lot of graph types. Some people can look at a plot and immediately see what they are supposed to see, I have to scratch my head and stare at it a while.

I think the numbers inside the speedometer are a little crammed, so it makes it too complicated when you just need a quick glance of the speed...therefore I use the digital readout like most everyone. The car really should have heads up display too. If an X3 can have it, then it should be no question that they M3 can have it.

But as far as gauges, Porsche probably is my favorite. Especially in the Cayenne with the digital screen on the left.

Also the 2011+ ISF gauge layout is great.

The only thing that annoys me is that my speedometer scale only shows KM ... I live in North America it is almost like the Germans are not aware of the fact that Canadians also travel down to the USA just as our American Friends visit us up here. When I drive in the USA (and I do a lot of that) I constantly need to calculate KM to MPH and it can be fun at time for speed limits change a lot in the USA.

Some day I guess I'll order a duel plate, I just don't understand why a Canadian car is not delivered with duel KM and MPH readout in the first place here in Canada.
Cheers, Rolf-Dieter

Life will take us to some interesting places, fortunately The ///M3 will too with a many of us know this very well

You could just look at your digital speedometer if the analog dials are causing that much of a stir.

Agreed. I am, in fact, not exempt from speed limits......but I should be. Here's why:

1. Police drive whatever speed they want even when not responding to an emergency. If they can do this, why can't I?

2. Speed limits exist partially because there are cars on the road far less capable in terms of safety (stopping, turning, etc). All takers considered, the M3 is one of the finest cars on the road in this regard.

3. Speed limits exist because there are other are drivers on the road with all varying degrees of skill and/or intelligence. I consider my self extremely vigilant, fairly well skilled, and pretty intelligent.

4. Only a complete fool believes that all posted speed limits really exist for safety. They certainly do in some zones, residential areas, etc. Certainly in these areas, it is wise for yourself and towards others to obey posted limits. But in many places, especially rural Interstates, they exist as a source of revenue for local and state governments and nothing more.

Would you observe the 75mph speed limit on this road?

If you answered yes, go buy a 328i.

I am annoyed now that you brought it too my attention, but I am sure once I hit the gas and hear the growl I will get over it. I am more annoyed by the orange reflectors (all models) and no shadowline trim option on the E93

I definitely miss my 997S big fat tach in the middle of the panel, however, I don't find the insturments difficult to read on an E92 M3.
