Same here, it's not road debris because our other cars on the same routes don't get them. They take a little effort to remove. Mine aren't rusty but rather just black specs, I suspect it's coming from the exhaust.

AW is the most prone to this, my trunk and rear bumper is covered in this. Thats where most of the dirt goes on your car. Here in Toronto, after a snow storm and all the salt and everything, the back of my car becomes black almost. and then you let that sit for even a day or 2 and it starts building up those little rust spots. Its a headache, I leave it until Spring and then I do a good clay bar on it and it ALL comes out, takes some times, but then some compound and wax, and your car will look better then when you picked it up from BMW. I used to detail high end cars (I still do some) and I've done this a million times. My moms white Acura TL also gets the rust spots after the winter.
In the summer or places like Miami, you should be able to avoid this by keeping the car really clean and always waxed (even spray wax). I didnt have a single rust spot on my trunk or rear bumper until winter hit!

While this may or may not be the case i have an opinion to offer. Could the rust spots you experience on your cars (my previous one too) be due to the cutting edge on the plows? It flakes off small minute particles of metal wich get thrown along with salt onto your bumper. The salt speeds up the rusting process and wallah you have rust spots on top of your paint. As for black spots that look like fly shit on your car. Dont park ANYWHERE near a mulch bed. Artillary spores are a bitch to get off and are attracted to light surfaces...ex a brilliant white Audi or my "should be at port today" Alpine white M3 the spores can shoot up to 15 ish feet and by the hundreds....just a thought...

I get the same exact spots on the top part of the rear bumper. This has happened on all my cars though so nothing new. Use the clay bar, wax, and repeat cycle until gone it is a pain but it works...

Claying will take care of it.
But it will come back. I have no idea from where it's coming from, but as already said: the rear bumper accumulates all the dirty thanks to the aerodynamics of the car. |

I am contemplating putting a "clear bra" in these areas so it doesn't stick as easily. My last car got to the point that it was almost impossible to wash away the dots...Has anyone tried this?
