Yeah this is too bad. Good thing XP was easy to hack and all. I have a couple disks with codes that should work for as long as I need them to
I have Vista... hate it.

Try playing games on a Mac.
I think the Windows cycles will go like this. Windows 98 -> XP -> Windows 7 Nobody ever really used Windows 2000 cause it was shit and the same deal with Vista. Those two were/will be skipped right over.

I switched over to Mac about 6 months ago...one of the best decisions I ever made. The transition is a lot smoother than most people think.

Games are sometimes faster than a standard PC, use crossover or bootcamp

Windows 7 is coming out (officially) in 2010 isn't it? Gates said it'd be out in 2009 in a speech. Then again given Microsoft's track record with on time releases I'd expect it in 2011.

For as much as people have problems with Vista about, I've pretty much not had a single one of those problems. Drivers are an issue because companies are lazy and don't update fast enough, but that's not particularly Microsoft's fault that everyone else is lazy. I dunno, I just know I have multiple Vista machines which I manage to run absolutely perfectly. If the issue was Vista being so horrible then it wouldn't work right for anyone.

My favorite passage is when Mike Nash, Corporate Vice President, Windows Product Management states that Vista turned his computer into nothing but an "email machine."

I can give you that MS dropped the ball with the logo program, but at the same time, I see the logo program as a validation for people to be sure that their components are compatible. I still think it's the third party's responsibility to make sure their hardware works too rather than taking advantage of MS's lax certification process. But still, in the end, this is all driver plugins to the OS. Drivers cause 95% of the crashes in Windows, not the OS itself. I just get tired of people saying "MS Sucks, Windows Sucks" when in reality it's companies like NVIDIA releasing horrible drivers and crashing the OS constantly that make it look like Windows has the problems. Once you have stable drivers, Vista is fast and rock solid.

I think there is a shared responsibility between the hardware vendors and MS when it comes to compatibility. MS wants people to upgrade, they have to make their product work with what their customers have.

The single Vista machine I worked with was a brand new laptop. I had zero issues with drivers. What I had issues with was that it asked me if I was sure every single time I did something (even my 8 y.o. son gives up after a while) and the SAME update kept wanting to be installed every time we got connected to the wireless.
The other main issue was teh tremendous amount of circling I did between control panel apps to get teh freaking wireless configured to use encryption. |
