newbie computer questions...thanks for the help!

So here is the situation:
-Computer won't boot b/c the help desk at Staples tried to restore in some way to fix a problem and it crashed while doing it, so it is jacked up now.

-Don't have a boot disk/recovery disk

Question:
-Can a get a full version of (or trail version) of windows vista home premium 64bit and just enter my product key while installing it from scratch? Also, is there anywhere to download this online from another computer? Links would be great!

I don't think you can download it from one computer to another, you would have to have a CD and boot it from the computer thats fucked. What does it do when it boots?

I want to download vista and burn it to a cd on another computer and then just throw it in the bad laptop and it will hopefully just install itself from scratch.

You could probably do that, I've never tried it. So your saying your windows is not booting? When you turn on your computer go to the BIOS and make sure it boots the CD first so it can install it.

Why the hell do you want vista?

Shell out for Windows 7 or buy a used copy of XP Pro for about $30

If I were you I'd

1. Buy windows 7.
2. Install windows 7.
3. Go drive.


PS: your old CD key will work, go torrent a vista and then use ur key when they ask.
