So....with the never ending delay, has anyone had the time to install the Rallye-4 harness yet? I would like to see one in person to see if it is even an option.

It looks like the E9X harness is failing the necessary tests if it is taking this long to certify.

BTW, to any of you who drive with NASA.

http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/ccr.pdf

Notice rule 11.3.2 !!! Even Quickfits are out, if I'm not mistaken.

So do any of you know a 4 belt system that will work with our cars ~out~ of this list? http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public..._harnesses.pdf

Edit: Profi IIs didn't cut it either, only the Profi IIIs. I'm not going to drill any holes in my car either, nor use harness bars.

I know, did you see the moaning over on the RM NASA forum? It's another season of CG Lock for me....

Yes, I did, and now I'm in the middle of that discussion and not making good friends with the director.

I was mistaken, the Quickfits will pass NASA's rule because of their specific certification for make and model of car. The Rallye models aren't. So I cancelled my Rallye-4 order (they had none in inventory anyway) and I'm back in the same boat, waiting... Back to CG Lock & volley ball knee pad on left knee.

Anyone aware of any updates? Last I spoke to Schroth a couple of months ago, testing was complete, but still no harnesses?

(Not much of an) Update

I chatted with HMS last night at a Steve Dinan presentation

In the first tests, Scroth/HMS tested the harness with Opel seats from Germany, on which the European tests were completed. The goal was to match the Euro data on the US test rig. Scroth are now awaiting test time with E9X M3 seats and are confident that the harness will pass. They have the hardware ready in anticipation of a successful certification, it is just a matter of getting test time. The harness will clip in similar to previous versions, requiring one connection to the seat hard point by the door and in the rear seat. the other end will clip into the stock belt clip on the seat and a stock buckle in the middle of the back seat.

I had another conversation with them about roll-overs and roll cages. Firstly, they made the point that the BMW OEM system is designed to hold you bolt upright in the seat in an accident. Secondly, if the car flips, you can be exposed up to 10G acceleration, so it is tough to move around anyway. In the tiny minority of "pancake" flips when you land directly on the roof, it wont matter much what restraint you are using. Most roll-overs go via the contact with the A-pillar with injuries being caused by a head or a limb being outside the frame of the car. The harness will actually serve to minimize this movement/position. The rep said he has grown tired of debating this online but clearly stands by the safety of his product.

Thanks for the update LiM3y! So you're saying you heard we might have a harness just before the last of our chassis' roll off the production line... Better late than never I suppose. Did the HMS rep happen to say if they have the test time scheduled for anytime soon?

No definitive date I am afraid.

I called HMS this week as well. They are hoping for the Quick Fits to be certified sometime this year. I think I will probably get them over the winter for spring events. I'm pretty sure the actual belts will be identical to the ones that are out now, but those don't list the E92 as an approved model, so they won't pass inspection with various event organizers/sanctioning bodies.

How do quick fits work? I've only installed permanent 6 point harnesses.
I'm dying for something decent for our cars.

Will do this weekend. The car is at the dealer for new Hoosiers and an oil service.
They look like the quickfit from the e46. Only difference is you bolt them in place using oem seatbelt anchor bolts rather than clipping into the existing receptacles. You have to either get good at ignoring the seatbelt dinging for the first minute or run the oem belt behind the seat and clip it in though.

What some people do is obtain (cut) a seatbelt prong (male) from a junkyard and simply plug that into the receptacle when using the harness.

Here's the latest from Schroth. I spoke to Mike yesterday. Testing with an BMW E9x seat has been completed and the seat has passed (this took a long time as Germany is no longer conducting the testing there, so it was done in the US). The Schroth Quick-Fit and most likely Quick-Fit Pro will be manufactured here in the US. Production will start this year and should be available before the year is out.

They are expecting pretty good demand for this harness, but they recommend that you check their web-site for updates.

Thanks for the update. I have one more DE this year, but having it for next spring would be good!
