I don't see why not.

Props to dracon for the quick turn around on an FSC. Flawless USB upgrade just completed.

So the CIC can be updated via DVD on pre-09/09 builds regardless of whether the firmware has been updated?

I went from 2007.2 to 2014 in one swoop perfectly fine with the DVD based CCC. Not sure if that helps.

That's correct. Pre-09/09 without a firmware update just can't update via USB.

Well, it did work for me.

As Dracon mentioned, us pre-09/09 guys just can't do USB. I suppose it took maybe 30-40 minutes per disk while I was running errands, no huge deal, really. Just took a while.

Good point...forgot that WinRAR was compression software

I wonder how big a difference it is from 2013 maps really though.

Yeah I'd like to know what was updated. I updated to 2013 maps not long ago. I have not been able to find anyone offering codes for less than $50 so I may just wait. Times are tough

Do I need a Dual Layer DVD for these files or can I use more than 3 DVDs?

You need DL or USB -- Each 'disc' has a config/db file associated with it that the car reads and expects to find all the relevant files in the same location.

Thanks. That's what I thought. My USB worked with 2012 maps, but not 2013. Hopefully it works this time.

USB is faster. A 32GB stick can be had pretty cheap these days.

Would be neat to stitch together all 3 CIC "discs" into a single USB transfer. Depending on the dB type used in those root files it may be possible to combine the folders and update the config dB to install it as a single disc. I'll take a look tomorrow, would be more convenient for those who have yet to update.

That would be great. Ironically, I went out and bought a 32GB USB drive last year after borrowing a friends USB stick for the 2013 update, in preparation for doing it again. I'd have probably just made sure I had 3 or 4 8GB sticks had I known it was going to be like this. I understand why it's like that and appreciate it being made available in whatever format, but I'd be all over a simple solution that allowed combining the three folders without redownloading and extracting. I think one of the vendors is offering a 1 disk install like last year, but I really don't feel like downloading and reextracting, both of which took many hours.

I was under the impression that you can just place all the files on the same USB stick? That's how we did my 2013 update earlier this summer.

You can but you have to move the files around when it asks for disk2..etc so that they are in the root and not in a subfolder.

Your download is probably incomplete, that is why you are having a hard time unzipping/unraring the file.

You can also go to download.com and look for free rar programs.
