HDMI cable conspiracy

I needed to get 3 HDMI cables for my Apple TV (great product BTW)...

I bought the Apple TV at Best Buy and asked for the least expensive HDMI cable they had...$24 for the Dynex (store brand) HDMI...I told the sales person that it should be about $5...everywhere online they are $5.00...no dice with the sales person...

I really didn't fel like waiting...I went to the cheapest store I could think of (Big Lots) and they are still $12.... a total rip off

So, I go home and get on the best buy website...they have the same dynex HDMI for $5

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynex+Di...43061&st=dynex hdmi&cp=1&lp=3

I mean seriously...

I actually replaced my Monoprice cables with HDMI cables from BlueJeans. Yes, I know all about HDMI cables (digital signal, works or it doesn't) but the BJ cables are better built - I had a monoprice cable fall a part in my hand.

Plus the BJ cables are built in the US (at least certain parts of them).

The amount of markup the stores have on these cables are stupid.

This is why Best Buy fails...

But seriously, physical stores like Best Buy make 90% of their profits on cables, accessories, and warranty plans.

Amazon is going to kill these guys...

It's already happening.

Things like cables and other 'lower priced' items are just about the only places these stores make money. Big ticket item prices are pretty well fixed by the internet. You are paying for the convenience of having you cable (or whatever) now.

I am happy to support a local vendor. Even if it costs a couple of bucks more, I want them to be there the next time I need something.

Another +1 for Monoprice (for any type of cabling).

If you have Amazon Prime, http://amazon.com/AmazonBasics is a better deal, it's Amazon's own branded cables, equal build quality to Monoprice stuff.

Just order your new cables online, and return the overpriced BB crap when they arrive
