HELP!!! M3 or 335xdrive

hey guys i was in the market for a 335xdrive because here in canada thats the only one that comes with M package...so i found one black on red with navi, executive package and M package for a good price... then i saw a used grey on black 2008 M3 coupe with 70,000kms with navi and executive package and 19" rims and after financing it turned out cheaper than the new 335xdrive. They gave me extended warranty for 160,000kms but i'm just worried about it being so used up...

what do you guys think i should do?! M3 or 335i? I currently have a 2008 335i now.

M3 with 45k miles, thats 15k miles a year, its not that bad. plus you get the extra warranty.... its a no brainer !!! M3 all the way, you will never regret it !!!!!!!

Well, this is an M3 site, so I would expect a majority of folks to say M3. However, would you rather have a used 3 year old car with 55K of warranty, or a new car with 50K of warranty? Also, I'm not sure if this will be a daily driver for you, but I think the X-drive would be a much better thing to have during the Canadian winters.

I'd go with the m3. Just get winters and you'll be fine.

I'm not worried about the winter at all, i had winter tires on my rear wheel drive 335i for 3 years and never had a problem with sliding around and never got stranded. besides the roads are usually cleaned right away.

My only problem with the m3 is that its the 2008 so first model and that its used, and i'm not sure how abused it was :S

Also, the m3 has the old idrive, i was really looking forward to the new one.

If you understand the difference between an M3 and the various 335's, why not just buy a new M3? Is it a cost issue for you? You know the "M package" (M Sport option) on the 335 is not anywhere near the same as what you get with an M3, right?

Well the new m3 is about $25,000 more than the 335 and $32,000 more than the used M3 I saw... I mean i'm not tight on money but I feel like its a waste to spend that much when i could just get another good car on the side. I'm also trying to find a 335is but its hard to get your hands on one.

M3, apparently they last forever and I read an article on Yahoo that said that the E9x M3's can last 200,000 miles (~300,000 km). Also, I don't know how safe it is on the snow, I too am worried about this, but apparently on winter tires it gets along fine. Can't you find an '09 M3 from the states and just get it shipped to Canada though? They're cheaper here anyway.

May be it's just me but I wouldn't go with an M3 with 70,000 kms period.

Is it a one owner vehicle? If so, can you connect with previous owner? Maybe there are some diagnostics the dealer can run to ensure the vehicle hasn't gone over red-line etc..I'd need to have some data points to feel comfortable with any pre-owned (especially an M3).

M3 for sure. Try to shop around a bit longer though. You will find the right M3 with lower KM. 335 M package does not compare in any way to the M3. I use to own a 330CI M package. It had the M sign everywhere and I felt like I was driving an M3 pretty much. (Keep in mind I was 18 years old)... When the guys with the e46 M3 rolled by me, thats when the reality check hit. The "M Package" is a joke to every M3 driver.

Go for the M3 but like I said, wait it out for something with lower KM. The certified pre-owned warranty till 160,000KM is a good thing but its not all that. It covers 75 - 80% of what your bumper to bumper warranty would cover and on top of that I believe there is a $250 deductible everytime you take your car in for service. I could be wrong about that.

Yeah i've always wanted an M3 but just always found the 335i more settling for relaxed driving and better on gas. I'm going to check out the cars records to make sure whats up with it and all. Anyone know how long a clutch can last on an m3?

My own personal choice would be the brand new 335xi. The '08 M3 isn't exactly a low mileage car, and has seen some wear and tear for sure. You've already alluded to the old i-drive in that car, as well as the poorer fuel economy relative to the 335.

The 335 is a great car-I'll be fortunate to have one of each, and admittedly, the 335i is a very capable daily driver in urban traffic. Stick with the xi...spec it how you want. IMO at least, you can't ascribe a tangible value to that new car smell, and being the first owner or a brand new vehicle.

I totally disagree. Lot of things can slip by a CPO car, especially at unscrupulous stealerships. I couldn't stomach that and that uncertainty would slowly eat away at me. But that is just me. I'll gladly pay the "premium" for a new car.

I saved 40% of the cost and got two extra years warranty. My car runs like brand new ( bought it when it had 30k on it).
Cant be better than that! Pretty much saved $35k that i can use for modding or other stuffs.

I am glad you saved money. Most people get around 10% off of msrp new, so I would gladly pay that 30% difference for an absolutely clean car where I know only my ass has been in.

I can only imagine what the previous owner did to the car, and I would not want another man's special sauce all over the backseats! For me, I will gladly pay that little premium so that I don't have to inadvertently sit on that.

We can not get 10% off in Canada.
Plus a little = 30% = $25k to $30k and at least for me it is not a little .

But again we have people with different financial situation here!
