Question e93: Vinyl wrap the exterior chrome trim...

Before I want to go stealth mode here with the mods, just the usual cosmetic stuff in plan...matte black grille, side gills, wheels...may be front splitters and mirror covers...

I know this will eventually bug me so I might as well take care of it now > that chrome shiny trim around the windows that convertible owners get to enjoy

Has anyone vinyl wrapped these pieces? Of course, my top still needs to work after this. I never think much about vinyl wrap, and this might just be the time.

If I have a professional installer for it, how much have you seen? Just want to collect some ball park figures before I even ask for estimates...

It can be done forsure. A friend of mine did his E92 335i and it looked amazing.

Price will obviously depend on the shop you go to. Call a few shops and get some estimates.

I just ordered a 5" by 30' matte black roll from bmw shadowline. Gonna do the trim when I get some free time and make a post.

The roll was only 40 bucks and essentially is 2.5" by 60' which will be more than enough. I only think I'll need a wide strip for the rear window kink. All the other trim only seems 1" or 1 1/2" wide tops

the car needs it bad, it already has black wheels and black grille etc..

Blindside, yes, I could see that coming, and it's really stopping me from getting the cosmetic stuff that I need...chrome trim looks great if I leave the car it is, but I always go stealth mode with my rides.

Will call around installers and see how crazy they want to be with this...I smell that I will end up doing this myself...even two rolls for experiment sake will cost me $80 and free spare time...

I've been thinking about doing the same. I won't do it myself since I have zero patience for delicate jobs like this. It should cost you $200-300 to have this one.

I had a buddy do mine. It usually runs $200-$300. Looks good and it receives compliments all the time. Does not affect the functionality of the top.

Don't DIY. Took him forever and vinyl wrap is what he does.

I also considered to DIY this, but apparently although the windows surrounds aren't too bad the rear decklid trim is a huge PIA to do properly.

That is correct. My buddy knocked out the window trim fast, but the chrome in the rear took forever.

Thanks all, no DIY it is. Have some calls to make now...this shoots up the list and is now the first mod...I'm no mood to get the other matte black pieces until this shiny ring is outta my sight...

^^^This.
On my last car, it came with the alteeza style taillights OEM. It was the one feature of the car (other than the fact it wasnt a bmw) that bugged the hell out of me. So I found some clear red vinyl to put on it. Ya, that was about $35 out the window. I even removed them and had the lights in the house trying to do it... I give the guys that can wrap cars big kudos.

I wrapped mine and it wasn't that hard. I'm happy how it turned out.
