I'm not concerned with the M3 in the snow, it's the other idiots driving too fast and being dumb that I worry about.

Looks great!

My only concern with getting an M3 is the loss of wet and snow performance. With good snow tires and maybe an extra 100lbs over the rear axles I'm hoping it will be good enough.

I do plan to test drive one in the rain to see if I can still remember how to drive

I don't expect to do this (NASIOC member from Philly) but it should be manageable.

That's nuts - I'd never drive my M3 in the snow. I had a lifted 4x4 diesel truck when I lived up north and IMO that's the only way to go.

This I would drive my M3 in the snow if it wasn't for the salt. Unless you want to wash the car after every single drive the salt will eventually get to it, usually the parts that you can't see.

Even then, you can't wash the salt off of the undercarriage. I drove my 350Z in the winter in Pennsylvania for two winters and it destroyed the undercarriage. Everything that was steel rusted like crazy. Even stuff that was painted/coated. It was fun to play around in empty lots but the salt is bad news.

I'm sure people said the same thing to those that stored old camaro's and GTOs. Now I'm not saying this car is going to ever be collectible but what's wrong with trying to maintain as best you can something that you value? What does its exclusivity, rarity or monetary value matter?

I see both sides, there is a benefit to enjoying the car year round, life is too short to get bent out of shape over a little corrosion.

But then others take a lot of pride in their vehicles and want them to look showroom new for as long as possible, so why put it through the rough treatment of salted roads if you don't have to?

If I had the means I'd have a fun car and the STI as my daily/bad winter car. I'm debating doing that. Paying it off and then saving for a less practical car. Then I think of a $15k trade-in and I'm back to an M3, C63, CTS-V, etc.

I've driven all my cars through snow, with proper winters.

When I sell them years later, people are always surprised at the "like new" condition of the cars. As long as you care for and protect them properly, winter driving doesn't hurt the car.

With the M though, I may not take it out depending on depth of snow. Don't want the car to become a snow plow...

Looking forward to moooar pics!
You know it Julie!

Yup, WS60's. AWESOME winter tire. Haha my PS2's were fish tailing like crazy the one day I had them on with snow, luckily the snow only settled on my road not anywhere else I was going. Nightmare getting it back into the garage, had to go downhill as opposed to up and just hoping and praying I didn't crash into any parked cars.

Thanks buddy, you too!

Trust me you will not understand the true meaning of snowmageddon until you come to Calgary. This can be classed as 'below average' for snowfall. I'll post some more pics when it hits hard.

That's true but that's what we have insurance for. If it's the next persons fault you don't have to worry about deductibles, insurance going up or anything of the sort. I can understand if you're worried about resale value but I'm keeping this car forever but ONLY because it's the last NA engine BMW will have in an ///M car.

HAHA yea man, even if I had a GT2 RS or an Aventador I'd still drive em in the winter.. Only Ferrari I'll ever own is an Enzo though so gotta park that at least.

Did the ZCP rims get there good bro?

We haven't had anymore snow fall here in Calgary but that's not a good thing. Looks like winters gonna run pretty late into next year so I'll definitely have more pics posted up soon. Any other members have pics to share? Go ahead I won't class it as thread jacking.
