265/285 Tires on 219m Wheels

Hi,

Does anyone know if you can safely run 265/35 and 285/35 tires on 219m wheels? As far as I know, they are 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 but I could be wrong about that. My research would indicate that the 265 and 285 would be doable but probably the widest tires you'd want to run given those wheel sizes. I just want to confirm.

The rational for this has nothing to do with aesthetics or performance gain but rather I have 219m wheels that are wrapped in winter tires currently and I am preparing to get my e90 up for sale. I figured the car would be more salable on proper performance tires rather than snow boots.

Thank you,
Adam

Sure you can, the sidewalls will have a more square and meaty look to it that's all. I'll see if I can find some pics.

If you like the look of bulged tires on narrow wheels, then sure. The tires will physically fit on the wheels, but it will look pretty terrible IMO.

Worse for performance. More expensive.

they will physically fit as long as you are not lowered or modified. May need wheel spacers for clearance in front.

Performance would be pretty terrible on narrow 8.5 and 9.5 width wheels but it's your car. Also, 265/35 front is smaller diameter than stock size.

Tires will physically fit but wider doesn’t mean increased performance.
