Buttonwillow 13CW 07.20.2013 - 2:07 in 100% stock form

Just couldn't stay away from a track much longer, so went on OE PS/2's, stock brake/pads, etc.

Ran only 2 morning sessions, and got my fix.

Nice run, especially being bone stock. My car was as loose as $5 hooker on Sunday at BW so I started at 2:25 and worked my way down to a 2:17 by dropping the tire pressure 2-3psi every run group (I should be doing sub 2:10s now and close to 2 once I have enough seat time). I was down to 25psi cold and 30-31psi hot by the last session. A lot of guys went off on Sunday and throw dirt/grave onto the track which had my traction control going off. I'm getting the suspension dialed in this week and replacing the front tires which are almost bold.

Nice driving! I was there sunday and ran a 2:09.

2010 6MT
PSS 245/275
MS airfilter
PMU gfour brake fluid

Your car looks a lot more planted than mine... I was running 35f/38r psi. I probably should of lowered the rear for it to oversteer less... Anyways DCT seems faster haha

With SoCal summer weather/temp, that sounds good. I was aiming for 33~34 psi hot during the first 2 sessions I ran, then went home at noon.

Yeah, heard about that. Some guys were doing that even on warm-up laps, including 4 wheel off's,..

Thanks JS! Man, haven't seen you at the track since Chuckwalla, with Gabriel.

I would love to go back this weekend w/ SV if I can find a new or decent set of R-S3's.

Well, as I commented in the video, I was pleasantly surprised at the decent level of grip I got from PS/2's from Grapevine all the way to Phil Hill. I'm dying to try out RS-3's with everything else stock.

Yeah, lower the pressure. The more you lower, the more the tires sag, thereby giving you more tire contact area with the track surface. Of course, you don't want to lower it too much 'lest sidewalls roll over.

Also, smoother driving (i.e. less weight transfers) translates into more grip.

Yeah I had it set up to slide to "scare" friends with a little bit of drift especially at the off ramp lol. It was my first time driving the M at Button Willow and wow the M is a lot of fun... I usually track the BRZ and it has loads of grip but there is something really special about the M3. I too would like to track it with just RS3 and see what it will be like.

That's not a problem. Call Gabe, he knows someone with a staggered set for sale. If the sizes are no good for you, I have a set of Volks G2 18x10 with 275/18/35 square laying in the garage (1 track day on them). I'd let you use them for the week-end. Gabe will be there Friday/Sunday and I will be there all 3 days including Saturday.

Hope to see you there!

Haha

Yeah, things sure do get easily dramatic at the Off-Ramp.

Oh I see (first time M at BRP).

Yep, fun indeed.

Yeah, tracked a buddy's BRZ at Streets of Willow last year and 'twas fun. But, add coil-over to the M, put some NT01 or TD's on, and the M has a ton of grip too.

There's a 90% chance that I'll be out there on Sunday...look for a white GT3 with an SC plate so if you see me there come say hi. I'll probably be there with a buddy who'll track his 2011 M3 that went into limp mode on the drive up this weekend (a throttle body sensor went back I believe).

Oh, dude, I'd take you up on that! I'll make it your worthwhile. I prefer squared.

After that, there really isn't an event I'd go to, 'til my car's back to track setup by end of August or beginning of September. So, I just want to run RS-3 one day - or, half a day, since it's still very hot.

Yeah I am really considering just selling my BRZ and mods for it and mod the M3.

I had a viper go 4 wheels off right in front of me on the warm up lap after cotton corners on the first lap, an E92 M3 went off going into riverside on the 2nd lap of my 3rd run group, and looked like an RX7 blew his engine accelerating out of off ramp right in front of me on 5th session. I wonder if me tailing them made them push a little too hard but I'm glad I kept my distance (I'd only pull up closer in the passing zones to make the passes). The 4th and 5th session I was doing a warm-up after followed by two hot laps then back to a warm-up lap.

Great! I'll look for you. I'll be there with my red GT3 ... My M3 doesn't like hot weather... I'm going to take it out again when it gets cooler.

I noticed that some of the M3 don't like the heat very much (both the E46s and E92s). I'm surprised how well the GT3s handle the heat...I was running just a touch above normal...it can take the heat a lot better than I can.

Thanks bud. I was aiming for 34 psi hot.

Yes, ZCP wheels.

Man, all those incidents would make a great Oh-Sh*t-Moments video.

I alternated between hot and cool-down laps. Seemed to work well for the stock car in this heat.

Ok, registered for Sunday. Will probably run the morning 2 sessions, though. Still too hot to run all day.

My coolant temp light was lighting up every 4-5 hot lap per session this sunday... I had to do 2 hot lap and a cool down lap so it is boarder line not lighting up.

I never tracked with Speed Ventures before...if I'm going to do a 2:15-2:20 (hopefully I'll run faster with a fresh pair of front tires and tightened up suspension) should get in the Purple group or the Black group? Do they allow you to move to a higher group if you are running a time low enough to get into the next higher group (I'm gonna get a transponder)?

I heard that some guys run water wetter and that helps with the heat, have you tried that?
