I don't think it's being "OCD" if you wish to buy a product that is reflective of OEM. Also don't think it's OCD if you want it to match.

Agreed. The guy who I bought mine from is using an OEM knob. He's using an aftermarket LED though because it's a little brighter and more red in color than stock.

It's a worthwhile mod. 99 bucks for a genuine part that lights up is a great deal. I think buying a new boot is silly also though.

Your right that they might not be knock offs but the lighting apparently isn't perfect. I'm curious to see your install. Will you cut your boot yourself?

Sure thing, but Im going to try it out for a bit before cutting the boot to make sure I like it and yes, Im pretty OCD myself so if the lighting isnt right, it will bug me and Ill go back OEM.

Then after cutting it, if I want to return to OEM, then I can always order the knob from Tischer or BMW or whomever later on. You know once the F30 M3 comes out all our parts will drop in price... Akrapovic anyone? lol!

Sorry for the horrible picture. I have no idea why it rotated when I uploaded it. Anyhow here is the ZHP knob I just installed.

The color is off but overall it appers fully illuminated. This looks good. Do you like the shifting?

It's amazing. As I said I had a ZHP in the past for 4 years so I knew how great that knob was. That's why IMO it's one of the first mods anyone with a 6MT should be doing. It along with an increased clutch stop are easy and really improve the shifting experience.

Perfectionists will be bothered by the difference in how it lights up but it's really not that far off and for me is an easy compromise considering the benefit.

It appears in the pics posted that the ///M logo lights up?

Am I missing something?

Decent price but I wouldn't want to take a chance on getting one that doesn't light up properly.

I also purchased mine from leathers a couple of years ago.

It looks OEM. It made such a difference in shifting. The shorter shifter and it's weight makes rowing through the gears a lot more enjoyable. No more rubbery feeling.

I felt it was such an improvement, I decided not to go with a SSK.

So got mine in. Weight feels good, looks like a ZHP knob alright. The lighting looks relatively on target, maybe a bit more red but it could be the fact I stared at it for ten minutes...
What I ended up doing was using the boot from the original knob. (That was painful, cutting it up like that...) Anyway, since I used the boot and the knob was done, I popped the cap off and swapped it with the ZHP one. Guess what? Looks OEM-alicious! So yup, happy customer here. And it fits just as snug if not more than the OEM one did. No unwanted movement. Not a bad deal at all and Im really liking the feel.
