Exhaust, cats, CA emissions
Does anybody know if a visual inspections (specifically exhaust/underneath car) are required for CA smog?
Will our cars (stock) with a primary cat removal pass CA smog? Can you reset the CEL just before smog testing and not fail on that point? Thanks much.

Yes, there is both visual and sniffer tests + an OBD read. Doubtful that without the primaries, it would pass. No, resetting the CEL will not pass since when they do the OBD read, it will likely show that your o2 sensors are not passing.

If you go to a local, reputable shop to get the pipes and install, they will likely have a "guy" that can pass the car if you hand over a few bills. This is even easier if you opt for an HFC option rather than catless.
Realistically, CA emissions are bogus when compared to what other states get away with...not to mention the carbon footprint for electricity (burning coal), overseas shipping, etc. An M3 HFC x-pipe is pretty guilt free in my opinion...

It's nice that the newer cars now have 6 years before the first SMOG test. |

FYI, starting this year, tailpipe emissions testing in CA is no longer required for vehicles 2000 and newer.

People with our software shouldn't need to flash back to stock.

How about exhaust volume? Do they measure it at all these days?
Will have to move back to CA and I'm wondering if my Eisenmann race will be causing me trouble to register out of state vehicle. |

You won't have to worry about that other than the fact that some shops won't mess with cars with ANY mods whatsoever, legal or not.
