+1.
I have it. Nicer than stock but not sure it's worth 500 + installation.

OEM F10 M5 knob is a huge improvement over the crap they have stock on the car. With that said I still feel there is no refinement between 1st-2nd (any speed) & 2nd-3rd (at high rev's). Also there is way to much movement while the in any gear IMO.
I got UUC SSK and DSSR despite a couple people talking crap and will give my honest review after GMP Performance installs it. After looking at the stock rod in person anyone saying the OEM is better is on drugs. Its flea market quality at best compared to many other 6sd's out there and I'm as big a BMW fan as they come. |

When did you buy it, new or used? Who installed it? What are the biggest issues? did you call UUC and let them resolve the issue id the pieces were defective? I will call them up later today to get some answers. As an engineer i looked at the design and spec and it looks legit. How your claiming its complete crap makes no logical sense. I'll review the design once its on the car and give my honest thoughts.

Just had the AA SSK kit installed in my car yesterday and it's the exact same kit as the UUC one just rebadged.
My opinion, the shifting feels a lot more solid and precise with the kit. In combination with the ZHP knob, clutch stop and clutch spring removal, I really like the way it shifts now compared to factory. I find the 1st to 2nd gear shift is a lot smoother too. For me it was worth the upgrade.

How about bushings made of Delrin? Do you know the material used in the OEM or UUC/AA bushings?

If all 3 bushings were delrin, shifting would feel much better, however it would be at the cost of some increase in vibration since it will be more directly transferring through.

I said Delrin specifically because Turner got great results with their differential bushings using Delrin. The consensus of all the reviews I've read is that amount of vibration expected was way more than what occurs in reality. The positives out weight the negatives and for me the current vibration felt through the shifter is very very minimal and only adds to the sensation of life in the car (like the E9X steering). Some more to further improve each shift would be welcomed. To bad no one offers this..... |

I had the RE SSK. But the fit is not as nice as I liked and I removed it after a few thousand miles to make modification to it.
The problems I had: -tiny play in where the WSR connect to the shift linkage on the transmission and also where it connect to the shifter. this manifest as play in all direction once installed. The oem shifter did not have this problem so it took away the precision that I was looking for. -spring washer that the RE SSK came with. the oem clip already has a little spring load build in, the extra spring washer took away some left/right movement. After install, the shifting to the side that loaded up the spring washer felt more vague than the other side. -there is a constant whining sound on freeway from the delrin bushings on the shift carrier. What I ended up doing is having the WSR coated with an extra 0.005 thickness to take away the play. I bought various thickness washers and fitted them in place of the spring washer so that the clip tensions feels the same as the oem one. I bought oem bushings and grind them down and cut them to put in the shift carrier in place of the delrin. I noticed no ill effect on the shift engagement than the delrin but it completely got rid of the whine. The oem bushing already has a hard plastic inside and actually has very little rubber on the side when installed. Wish they had made the shift carrier to use the oem bushings from the start. It's quite a bit of work but I absolutely love my shifter right now with the ZHP shift knob. I however, do not recommend the short shifter as is the way it came from the manufacturer. My .02 only obviously. Last edited by e92zero; 09-11-2013 at 05:37 PM.. |
