Just pointing out the facts. I own a lot of AAPL shares and think they are a great company. However, I'd rather buy their stock than their products.

It's called proper maintenance..

So one requires zero to work nicely and the other I have to constantly work to maintain? You guys really aren't helping the PC cause here...

The way UNIX works is completely different. You can not have a "virus" in UNIX/Linux, but you can have a "trojan" and even in that case, the privilege escalation on UNIX is completely different from windows, and you have to deliberately type in root password to do *any* damage.

So yes, you can credit Apple in some way for choosing to do this radical step and completely rewriting the OS. I've been using Macs since 1999. OS 7, OS 8 and when OS 9 came out i swore that I will never ever touch another Mac ever again. This is how much of a piece of garbage it was. OS X changed EVERYTHING.

I've been saying this for years, and i will say it again. Microsoft needs to start parallel development of a new, UNIX based OS. Continue to support existing line for 10-15 years, while slowly phasing it out and pushing the new OS. Software vendors will slowly adopt and write software for the new OS.
Microsoft won't even have to do much, just write a nice interface because all of the footwork has been done.
a dumb user will get infected no matter what... he'll click ok and/or type in the root password if he wants to run something badly enough.. all I'm saying is that no one will take the time to write code to infect all 27 people hwo use macs worldwide

I've never been infected in all the years I've been using a PC.. not once..

Consider yourself smart and lucky then. I guess Apple must really be price gouging since they have nearly $350 billion in market cap and only sold to 27 people worldwide.

iphone, ipad, ipod..
they are great products (although, again limited by their OS) which I enjoy using.
but a mac desktop will never be for me.

and yes, they do price gouge a lot... regular mac price = high end alienware price
an alienware will outperform a mac any day of the week...

This thread isn't about mac OSX vs Windoze. We already have one (many actually) of those threads.

This thread is about Steve Jobs leaving Apple. We're supposed to be talking shit about Mr. Jobs, not OSX.

I'm pretty happy he's gone. Hopefully his successors aren't complete fucking dicks to those who work for them. I wish he wasn't still chairman, but his step down from the CEO position I think is enough for me to lift my personal boycott. Good thing too, my iPod is fucking dead.

Speaking of which, are there any iPods or other portable music players that still have buttons and/or scroll wheels on them? I can't stand these touch screen only devices, especially when they're encased in the necessary protection to keep from getting fucked up at the gym.

get iPod shuffle for the gym. unless you are planning to spend 72 hours at the gym, it should be sufficient enough to keep all of your workout music. you can drop it, you can step on it, it does not need any protective covers, has buttons and is only $49.

Well I've thought about that but don't they shuffle your music automatically?

Right, but by not having the screen it's difficult to navigate your music so most just put it on shuffle.
