Feel obligated to drive fast because you have an M3?
The title asks the operative question. But as I was cruising along the coast today I wondered how everyone else felt about this. If you are first at a stop light, do you feel you need to take off faster than the person next to you becuz you have an ///M3? Do you feel funny if a grandmother in a Crown Vic or someone in a Camry passes you while you are in the right lane? Do you care? Do you always drive fast/aggressive or are there times when you just cruise along like anyone else? Just curious how everyone else drives day by day.

I purchased the M3 (my third now) for what it is a kind of special exemplar designed by knowledgeable Engineers and Designers of the ///M Division.
The car is fast yes indeed and as such I respect it. The other main reason I drive it is for safety. My first M3 once saved my life when a truck driver nipped off and angled into my passing lane on a two lane highway in the mountains. He would have pushed me over the cliff perhaps himself after me was it not for the power of the M3. I leaned on the horn and put the pedal to the metal. Perhaps it saved both our lives. So I drive the M3 for the kind of car it is knowing I have the power under the hood if I need it. Needless to say I sling shoot past 18 wheelers

Occasionally. And not nessecerly fast. Sometimes I'll be minding my own business driving 5-9 above speed limit on a somewhat busy hwy here in Dallas but the Honda accord guy keeps pushing me from behind and making me look more at my rest view mirror than in front. Then I speed up a little, change lanes couple of times to put a car or 2 between me and him, also to show him that I can do this too do when I'm driving slowish don't bug me

In 2007 I had dinner outside one of them restaurants (cant remember if it was 5th street or avenue) anyway the street was closed off and within the hour some 30 sports cars gathered Bugatti, Ferrari, Lombos, Porches' you name it ... it was quite entertaining. I've got photos some place ... have to find them some day ... nice eye candy that was.

By nature I tend to be an aggressive driver as well as a speeder. However...
When I drive my M3 I find myself actually driving more conservatively. I can't say exactly why but it doesn't interfere with my enjoyment. I still push it from time to time but I don't feel like I have to. Maybe it's because I turned 50, maybe it's because I've pushed an M3 hard on the 'Ring a number of times. I can't reproduce youth or the 'Ring experience just by being fast or aggressive so why do it? It's obnoxious.

It does not mean that since you drive an M3, you should drive it like you stole it. It's self preference. It's your car and it's your choice to drive fast or not. I speed at the right time though. Some of which are:
--> When entering freeway on ramps. --> Driving on windy backroads on a dry (NOT WET) day. --> To relieve stress occasionally after work doing spirited runs. --> When I'm late for work (Rarely happens but I did drove very fast to get to work 2 or 3 times this year). --> When I need to get home to take a shit. LOL! Hahahaha. I know it's very tempting to drive fast since you have an M3, but a little discipline won't hurt. Stay safe out there when you decide to drive fast.

The faster my car is, the slower I tend to drive most of the time, because I have less speed insecurity. The rest of the time, I enjoy the car to its limits.

Far and away the people speeding and ripping off from lights is always the beater mobiles. I feel absolutely no need to outgun a 86 honda prelude.
Plus the m3 is not exactly the fastest thing on the street, especially from a dead stop. |

I drive slo. It feels fast already going 65. Only gun it on freeway on ramps when no one in front but I stop accelerating at 60 because no where does it say it's illegal to get to that speed in under 5 secs

Oh but to answer your question, no I don't care if the car next to me takes off faster from a stop light. I've seen civics that get to 40mph faster than me and already a car length ahead...I attribute this to the M's lack of torque. To keep up with civics and camrys, I have to rev this thing to like 5k and I don't want people to think I'm trying to race every car at the light cuz that's gay. And gets too much attention cuz its loud up in those rpms
