Scheerspeed Detailed: 1974 BMW Coupe

The story on this one:

the curent owner had the car completely restored 7 or so years ago, and it has not really been detailed since. the paint looked pretty good upon first inspecting it, but after wiping the car with alcohol to remove any old wax, things looked a lot worse. there must have been some type of filler wax that was filling all of the scratches and imperfections, because there were a lot.

i decided to go try to get the paint as perfect as possible on this one, so i went with M105 on a yellow Uber pad to knock out any imperfections in the paint, in some places i had to go over it 3-4 times to get the paint perfect.

When we started on this one, we couldn't do a normal wash. because the owner is afraid of the car getting any rust, and it already had a few spots that had rusted. this car has never been driven in the rain, and has never seen a wash with a hose. so to start out, we wiped the car down with a spray of ONR diluted to clay lube strength, and followed that with an alcohol wipedown to remove any old wax.

in this picture the paint doesn't look all too bad...

and the interior before

now look at the paint after it had been prepared for polishing

some very bad wetsanding marks that were not properly finished down... i had to be especially careful here and polish at a low speed

more swirls...

the bottom of the front bumper looked like it had never been polished

here's a 50/50 with 3 pases of M105 on the left side, and the right is untouched

front bumper after

almost finished.... it was about 11pm

we went as far as removing the hood grills to clean underneath them

My assistant Beni polished every single peice of metal on the car. inside and out.

and here's the finished result after all that polishing. these pictures are before applying the swissvax Mystery wax.

as we were doing the final touches to the car, a big rain storm rolled in. we had to quickly shut the garage before it got too humid and so the car wouldn't get wet. we waited the strom out and quickly rolled the car out for a few after shots, ads it looked like we only had a few minutes before the rain picked up again.

old vs. new

Thanks for looking!

Shweeeeet! That car is gorgeous. The exterior really needed some work. And you did a good job at that. I wish you were up in the Baltimore-DC area.
