Have no idea what this button does?

This button with A and semi circle arrow that's on the dash. What does it do? I looked through the owner's manual and couldn't find anything about it. Thanks

Glad I'm not the only one. The owner's manual doesn't mention this at all!

so what that feature basically does is, it shuts off the engine automatically for you if youre in a long idle so it saves gas on your car... i think?

Yes, it is the Auto Start/Stop feature. Light on indicates the feature is disabled...

Had a new 328 with the auto-start as a loaner, and it was the most obnoxious feature I've ever experienced in a car...

What's the city EPA rating on the M3 with this feature? What are those of you who are leaving it on getting as far as mileage goes? I average ~16 mpg on my mixed commute in my '08.

most common and widely used in europe. as stated, it cuts the engine off at stop lights. starts car back up automatically when you hit the gas. i have heard claims of much better long term gas mileage by using it.

It's a useless gimmick. There are so many conditions in which it won't operate. Tried it once. Never again.

I turned it off from the very start ... I will never ever use the START / STOP feature ... to sit in my M3 with the engine off is a wired feeling ...

Like I said, it is predominately a European thing. Of course fuel costs are double over there, so it changes your priorities.

The uk models are set up so the stop/start feature is switched on all the time. Pressing the button disables it but once you cut the engine, the next time you switch on, it's live again.. So you have to manually disable each time if you don't want it. Daaaaamn
