Akrapovic ? Or something else ? Newbie here

Hi m3post !
I've been stalking this forum for awhile for great advices but newly registered.

The car is 2011 E90 M3 (4dr) stock.

Considering the sleepless nights I had a hard time finding out weights on full exhaust setups.
I was primarly sold on the "Gimmick" ? of the less weight of Akrapovic Evo GT4 setup

But had a hard time to convince my self it was worth the premium price tag.
I looked around forums and all over the net trying to figure out the weight difference, so far It looks like any aftermarket if not then most aftermarket setups are considerably lighter than the OEM Exhaust (apparently bmw made them heavier to balance the weight of the vehicle?)

Would I lose too much of it's weight balance by going Akrapovic + Light wheels? too much weight shifted forward ? I'm a newbie when it comes to balance performance, and I see the greater advices from here.

Also is Akrapovic worth the price tag ? or is it more of a Bling braging rights ?

from looking online It looks like I can gain a similiar amount of hp/tq gain by doing a mixtures of setup but sacrifice by adding a little more weight than what Akrapovic has to offer (SS vs Ti) is Akrapovic that much lighter? or is it really a gimmick ?

I guess to simplfy my question, is Akrapovic worth the price tag or can I do a different setup for similar performance gain ? and if so what would be a good recommendation ?

I know drone would be there, but i really dont like raspy, reminds me of my old JDM'd integra

For the price (I paid $450), the perforated pipe oem exhaust mod is the best mod I have ever done. Killer sound when you're on it and zero drone. Sounds like a proper sports exhaust. I painted my can black which I think completes the mod

Nothing about Akra is a gimmick. Its performance and build quality is one of (if not the best) on the market. You could be unique and chose a hybrid system (mixing axle backs with different xpipes) but you wont be sorry buying the Akra.

Good luck with your choice.

If you want a setup that ads HP....Akra-evo +++ 30 HP...but you now the price !
When it is for the sound..do the Oem. exhaust mod. i have done this for about 15 USD !
BTW...the Akra-evo sounds a little raspy...see sound clips off it !
So it's up to you

Akra Evo is the best exhaust for the M3 IMO and worth the cash. the build quality, power gains, looks, etc.. are awesome. This is just my view im sure other have their own views on which exhaust is the best.

look on the forums for used ones they come up from time to time. used evo go for 3800-4500 price range from what I have seen.

I've never experienced an exhaust that ticks all of the boxes like the Akra Evo. It's bar none the nicest exhaust that I've ever seen.

Be patient and find the sections used. Still not cheap though.

Thanks for your tips guys

Yeah the only thing that bothers me on Akrapovic is the raspy sound,
I saw the build quality and it looks better than OEM factory finish before its been used.

I suppose I'll be on the look out for used ones, which seems to be a pretty good price.
any way to eliminate the raspy sound ?

the akra is made of titanium and is extremely light compared to other exhausts that are not utilizing this material. Of course that makes some of the other exhausts much cheaper in price

what is the weight of your akra slip on ?

I ask because I'm eyeing a Vanguard used on this forum,
also titanium and sounds pretty nice as well, I believe it's going to be similar to akra slip on performance, I'm hoping they're about the same on weight.

I'm considering getting the X-pipe from Akra and try to mount it with the used vanguard, sounds like I can save a bit going this route,
Ofcourse I don't know if they would fit each other or not, not sure if any modding is necessary

No. You'd need adapters and those are costly.

A lot of guys seem to be underwhelmed when they finally install and hear their exhaust(Akra).

I think the full Innotech system is the best. Power and an awesome sound.

will take a look at few clips of innotech,
just hard to tell since theres mostly only reving sound clips not an actual drive
and if it's an actual drive, sounds much different than in person -_-

I am in the same boat..not knowing what to get. From what I could find it seems Akra is one of the more popular exhausts for the M3 but that price tag is hefty.

I had a chance to hear a Fab-speed exhaust the other day..sounded amazing.

Rimier motorsports made a great video on youtube showing everything from reving to aggressive driving with valves opened and closed.

To be honest sounds even better in real life.

Many people say akrapovic has the most mild sound. I wouldn't want anything louder than my Akra evo system. I bought mine used and saved a few $$'s. The used market for Akra is strong and it won't corrode (titanium). I have sold an Akra rear section for the same price I paid for it. In other words, buy it right and you shouldn't lose too much value. One of the factors I use to choose my mods is resale. Buying quality parts that appeal to many has helped me minimize my modding costs.

Simply... I think it's worth it.

For me the Akra is the best fit. Ive never really found it to be raspy but rather bassy at lower rpms. It is fairly mild but still adds a nice character. Where I live and work I would really annoy my neighbors if I had something louder.
