After a couple years or 10,000+ miles then upgrade to a 600cc Supersport, and again, another 10-20,000 miles you can upgrade to a liter if you so feel. I have 45,000+ legit street miles under my belt and I still ride a 636cc supersport. It's got way more power than I can use on the street.

Right? I am dangerously fast on my 636cc, quicker than most with 1000ccs simply because I learned to ride mine well.

Thanks for the support and the advice/education. I'm looking into those as we speak, but for now I have to see how big of a hit I will take on the loss after it sells.

Can't be THAT bad. Didn't you say you knew Rick and Rita Case personally and got a great deal?

Yes, but it's still a bike. A used bike and they have HUGE depreciation value.

I'm sure someone with a brand new 600 or 750 would love to swap the bike with you. If you really got a great deal on the 1000, you won't lose anymore than a grand.

That would be nice, but I have to be realistic.

Would love to help with as much as I can, my friend. Riding is incredible not only for the sport itself but also for the community that comes with it. Seek out experienced riders who are safe but quick, and follow their direction. There's much to be learned.

The SV650 and 650R are both more beginner sportbikes but have more power than you'll grow out of. The supersports are just so twitchy that a little twist at the wrong time can literally throw you off the back or point you skyward, as you found out. The bikes I recommend are fast but not as sketchy.

You can pick up newer SV's for pretty cheap too because they're pretty plentiful and aren't too pricey to begin with - Think a Honda S2000 in bike form. If you got a great deal you probably wont take a huge loss either. Also, just before beginning of summer is the best time to sell, as that's when bike prices appreciate due to people buying. During winter is when you'll get the least amount for them.

That's alot of information you've given me and I thank you for that. I'll definitely take a look into the SV's.

wow the brutality on here. Critical just went up a few notches. Listen dude. There was obviously operator's error on your part. Look at the region you're living in. Florida is made up a lot of straight lines on the interstate and main roads. So if you want to extend the swingarms, then aby all means. Just learn to ride. No need to take a financial hit and be dissuaded. Learn to ride, then learn the bike and you'll be good to go. Just remember to respect the bike and it will not harm you too much. All it took was one spill for me on the R6, and it was my first bike. I tried to hard to keep up with experienced riders and I crashed. That was 5 years ago and my only spill on two wheels. I learned how to ride and I learned the bike. Now I"m knee dragging and fully suited up everytime I ride.

Of course it was my fault. I take full responsibility, and I wanted to get further advice from members. At least one person agrees with me in getting the swing arm so I have time to learn it without dropping it again. Thank you for your input it's much appreciated.

Liter bike with limited experience, not a good idea (I read a few posts saying the same thing).

If you're going to keep the bike, which it looks like you are, at least wear the gear. I can't stand seeing squids in shorts/flip flops/no helmet (not saying this is you).

okay so you plan on selling the bike. Not a bad decision, and a very wise one. I apologize for being a douche bag, I am part of a motorcycle forum and you will not believe how many people never take advice and start off on something like a 600cc SS or a 1000cc litre bike. It gridns my gears every single time i see anything remotely close to someone being on a motorcycle that they in no way shape or form are able or supposed to ride. I was once in a dilemma a year ago, when I wanted to choose a first motorcycle. I was contemplating a 600cc SS as my first motorcycle. I realized after asking on this forum and the motorcycle forum that doing so would be one of the worst decisions ever. So I bought a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R.

Now if you feel you have the desire to ride, then suit up and get something like the suggestions that many have made.

I suggest you take a look at this thread

I weigh a 140lbs, they are light and easy to get used to. I'm not saying getting a 250cc is the best option, but it is deffinetly an option for many. Besides 250cc go like nothing when being resold. Especially the 08+ models since they look totally different and better than previous models.
