Close call today - State Trooper

Just got on the highway ramp with car in WOT.... passing 4 cars.... speeding .. switching 2 lanes.... and crap....

Saw the state trooper few hundred feet away with laser gun park on the side... strangely, my escort x50 did not go off... immediately looking down at my speed.... 85+ in 55 zone.. slow down.. and pass the trooper.. radar still did not go off......

LOL.. i guess i felt guilty automatically when I am speeding...

So i quickly switch lanes... and continue driving.. still no sign of the trooper.. I guess i got lucky and he was not ready.. or he was not targeting at my car..

:rocks:

I've got the Passport 8500...if your Passport didn't go off (especially with Laser -- you know it goes absolutely nuts with Laser detection!!!), then he didn't turn it on; even if he had it pointed on someone else's car in front of you, your Passport most likely would've picked up some scatter laser beams. Plus, are you aware that your speedo may be off by a few mph (BMW speedo's are notorious for being innacurate -- usually a few mph over)?

Anyway, I think you just got "wicked" lucky! ...I'm originally from the Boston area, so i know the old lingo.

The V1 is great, but the Passport 8500 and X50 are excellent detectors as well; had the laser gun been on, it would've picked it up.

not always-laser is a thin beam so whether or not it gets picked up depends on lucky deflection, bad aiming or a long distance shot.

sorry.. but personally i hate V1. i had one before they suck.. and the box design looks like from early 2000...... ancient... they totally need to make it better for the price they are charging...

now. the laser works on reflecting laser beam back to the gun to detect speed.. since the new E92 is practically no good vertical angel to aim at it to get a direct refection.. with the exception of the front plate...

Which i had it cover with defuser... LOL.. maybe i got lucky...

I've had numerous detectors over the years, and IMHO the V1s are the best. Who cares what it looks like? I bought it for protection, not for good looks.

I used to have a V1 on my G coupe, I can say that it has saved me from more than one speeding ticket. From what I read of the reviews online people seem to like the V1 quite a bit more than any other company.

BTW I've heard of a system that is installed in your front and rear bumper and may have a jammer of some kind, my dealership told me about it. Anyone know anything about this? Could it go in an aftermarket bumper?

Ok, I'm not saying I would ever use a jammer of any type, but I am interested in the laser/radar detector in the front and rear bumper.

I think the State Troopers in Mass have give up on speeders.. Whenever I'm on the 93 north of Boston, left lane traffic moves above 90mph.. I've passed cops there going 85 in a 65 and they don't do anything. Maybe I'm just lucky, but the traffic enforcement doesn't seem to really care.

I read up a lot on http://www.radardetector.net/ between V1 and the Escort X50. There's a decent number of people in both groups. I went with Escort and it has done its job well so far

Also, the new Escort 9500i sounds pretty sweet. See this thread: Coming soon: Passport 9500i radar detector

I have seen those system on a few porsches and mercedes around here. It's a black plate frame with what looks like a few LED's in a row out of the bottom most right side...and it's wired up to inside the car to a red LED light to show the front or rear has detected it.

Most of the time when you're hit with laser, it's basically over unless it was a scatter from another car. Aiming a tv remote at the V1 and pressing a button sets off the laser detection to full tilt.

I did read on a system that emits a bright flash at the laser gun once it detects a laser hitting it making the return negible to read.
