Got mine too!

My lease on the 550i 6MT is at its end and after trying to commute in the GTR, I gave up and picked up my new daily d. Here's my take on the two.

GTR: Feels fast going slow. Feels insanely fast going fast. Just a lot of fun but a serious pain driving on imperfect roads. Almost miserable. If you like the gut wrenching, neck snapping torque, then you'll love this car. Steering is great and the car is huge fun on twisty roads. No need to go to the track to have big fun.

M3: Feels slow going slow. Feels slow going fast. I have to keep pressing the M button to have any kind of fun. 550i feels faster because the torque is there. punching the throttle on the 550i is way more fun. The M3 has to be going before you feel much although I know I'm going fast, it doesn't feel like it. Steering wheel is too chunky and shifter throws too long. Longer than the 550i if you can believe it. But the ride is great. Steering is a little numb. This thing needs to be on the track to have fun.

To sum it up. I can't take the 550i to the track and can't commute in the GTR. The M3 does it all really. If you can only have one, then the M3 is it. I can see why C&D picked it over the GTR. If you can have two, then the GTR and the 550i 6MT sport pkg is the ultimate combo. With the great M3 deal, and wanting to always own an M I couldn't resist.

I agree that the M3 needs to be pushed to fully appreciate it, and where else can you do this but the track? I've owned a 550 and would not compare the two for the fun factor no matter where you are driving. I agree with your conclusion, though. If you can only have one car it is hard to beat the M3.

Your summation on the m3 is exactly the same as mine, feel, shifter and all. Can you let us know how you like living with it after a while? I'm having trouble pulling the trigger - I have a 08 STI now that the M3 would replace as a daily driver, and worry I will be bored in the M3. I am a huge fan of torque (I have a z06) and I dont really like linear engines. It does sound good though!

If you don't like linear engines, you're not gonna like the M3. BUT, given you have an STi and a Z06, the M3 might be a good change of pace. You might not be excited by it as much as the Z06 but I'll bet that you'll end up driving it waaayy more than the vette. In terms of looks, prestige, power, useability, and handling, it awesome.
