MRF tune?
I see MRF offers a tune and exhaust. Tune alone says over 20 hp? Seems a bit much for a tune alone. Seems like Malek is a regular poster but 20 or more hp from a tune seems not realistic given every other tune has not matched this. With the xpipe it claims almost 60hp.
Why does nobody have this tune or do they? http://www.mrfengineering.com/2011/02/mrf-velaforza/ |

Good question Longwong.
I've been in a couple NA M3's including Malek's and his car is insanely fast for just a tune/exhaust. Some of you guys know that I've been running his mid-pipe on my S/C M3 since October and the decision was made after getting a ride in his car. I was like, wtf is there a supercharger under the hood? Nope just his tune/exhaust combo. I got the ride in his car prior to install of my S/C and so my comparison at that point was my stock DCT M3 which did 365 RWHP on EAS dyno. I can tell you that Malek's car was sooooo much faster based on my seat-of-the-pants feel. I think his car made 404 RWHP but I don't recall if it was on the EAS or another dyno.

But isn't there a point where if someone is getting that much more power than all of these other really great tuners that something seems suspect in terms of safety if nothing else? I think any tuner probably could push to the limit and get more power but I guess if something seems too good to be true than it is..I am NOT implying anything negative toward Mr. Malek but just trying to remain objective and logical you know?

I can tell you that his car has been like that for a couple years with no issues. He even tracks his car often so there is longevity with it too. I think there is beauty in the simplicity and order of his car. There's not much there, just tune, exhaust, KW Clubsports, Forgestar SDCs with PSS, and proper alignment. With no aero he was running 1:32/1:33 at Big Willow. He gave me a ride and I was like damn...an optimized NA M3 doesn't take much (but takes some thought and the right combination of parts) and is absolutely incredible on the track.

There is nothing in the safety of the car that has been compromised. The vehicle has been tuned since 4000 miles and now is at 26,000 with multiple track and dyno sessions. The tune is just like any other tune, except for the fact that it is optimized and tailor made for the MRF Velaforza system. Just tune and exhaust, the car produced 404 RWHP with 91 octane. We currently do not offer the tune any longer simply because it is not available through remote flashing and/or an "e-flash" type of interface. However, we are going to revisit the tune with a couple other reputable tuners here to reproduce our tune and make it available for everyone.

Well let me expand-I am simply for sake of interest trying to understand how your x-pipe produces 16 more hp than the akra for example which produces about the same hp as all the others.
Again isn't there a limit to the design of the piping and if you are already HFC or no cats is it worth upgrading? I have an AA xpipe with HFC and you are saying I could get about 15hp more with your system? Without giving your secrets could you enlighten us to a bigger picture of the areas you found had room for improvement. |

I apologize, I did read the exhaust thread Malek and that was great and answered all my questions. I did not see the thread before you pointed it out, or rather did not see your post.
And to clarify I don't think the x-pipe is unsafe at all. I meant the tune. But I think what I am hearing Malek say is the tune is not any better in terms of power gain than any other good tune but rather it is his x-pipe that makes so much more than anyone else? Either way lets be honest, if the product X is so much better than product Y and Z than why was product X a short limited production without more sales? I am a realist and in my view, in an enthusiast market, if a product shines so much more than another, and it is legit, the sales will speak for themselves. Given this was taken off the market after a short run, still leaves me wanting to see a really thorough dyno coparison from independent people logging AFR, ignition, IAT etc. Nonetheless I am sure its a great x-pipe and a great buy, just would need more data to accept its putting out 15 more whp than an akra. |
