i drove a 2009 c4s 6mt and was underwhelmed, it was part of the porshce canada tour...
yes it was a great car, but i dunno i expected more after all the amazing reviews porsche gets (i always loved the cayman s) the c4s also felt slower than my car, though it isnt, it felt it, but the precise brake feel and steering feel were nice and initially took some getting used too. when i first test drove the cayman s, after driving an sclass for 2 years it felt great, like a handling crotch rocket. then i bought the m and went back to porshe day and it didnt feel the same...i guess the 400hp spoiled me. |

Carrera S gets an estimated 18 City / 26 Highway while the M3 14 mpg city/ 20 mpg highway. M3 has free maintenance up to 50k miles and much more practical and more comfortable. I'd get the e92 M3 even though the CPO Porshe has a 100k powertrain warranty.

Sorry, in fact wanted to know how many miles on the Porsche already, as the OP said it is a CPO.

What you call the S is the C2S. "C" just stands for Carrera, "2" stands for the number of drive wheels (2 or 4), and "S" obviously refers to the sport model, so you have the C2, C2S, C4, and C4S, as well as the various other 997 derivatives.
All of the 997.2 models, especially if equipped with PDK, will beat a stock M3 pretty handily in a straight line. Even the base 997.2 C2 has a slight edge in straight line acceleration. I think some of you are judging the 997's based on experiences with the previous version, which are significantly slower in a straight line. The M3 is a bit faster than the 997.1 C2 and C4, but still not as fast as the 997.1 C2S or C4S.

Yep, Porsche claims (and the tests reflect this) that the PDK shaves 0.2 s off the 0-60 time. Adding the Sport Chrono Plus package, which includes a launch control feature, knocks off another 0.2 s apparently.

so what is the 0-60 on the C2S?? i know there have been stock M3 that have done 4.1 sec or what car and driver posts. i bet that had to be a DCT. i have a 6sp and i can't see me getting anywhere near 4.1 sec to 60mph. i don't care as i like a manual better but just curious what the 0-60 is on a C2S or newer one for that matter. i think the older ones were 4.7 and the reg C was 5.1.
thanks for the info and links

I really miss my 997.1 And I would get it in a heart beat over the m3 or any other car for that matter, but they sure do have poor resale over bmw. Don't rule out the cayman s w/pdk either...most likely my next car

what is the difference btw the 997.1 and the 997.2 just year ranges?? what year started the 997.2??
also you said MUCH faster then the M3. even at 3.9 the M3 is 4.1 so i wouldn't say much faster. faster yes but only by .2 sec and the 1/4 mile is not far off either i mean they are two totally different cars anyway but in the power department i would say there pretty close no?? Quote:

good info thanks. the 997S was always a choice for me, they were just to much money at the time and i felt the M3 would be a better DD for me as well. maybe next time around seeing it looks like the new M3 won't be NA

But 50% is the drop is over 13 years. 98k in 1996 minus 45k today. A car that sold for 99k in 2006 is the same as 106k in 2009 dollars. If I can pick up a used 2006 for 50-60k, the value has dropped almost 50% over just 3 years. I guess the real question is what will a 996/997 be worth (in respect to its original MSRP) in 13 years? |
