Is a strut brace worth it?

It's an age-old question, and one that's been the topic of many a great e-battle on forums over the years: Is a strut brace worth it?

As much as we all love to see a great internet fight, we prefer to have actual data to make an informed decision or recommendation, so we turned off the proverbial butt dyno and decided to measure the actual amount of strut tower deflection on a BMW.

Read about our results here: Is a Strut Brace Worth It?

Now you can have some data as backup for your next e-fight. ;-)

A) No units on the Y-axis, no care (for those tldr people, the article shows 0.7mm of max deflection)
B) String gauges are rad

I have wondered if the OE braces on the E9xM are more about reinforcing the firewall than the strut towers

I put in a rear strut brace in my M3 and the rear parcel shelf stopped creaking. So I know it does reduce flex. What that translates to in laptimes I don't know. I did it to reduce cabin rattles.

Garage List
2004 BMW M3  [4.50]
2011 BMW E90 M3  [5.25]
2013 BMW 328i  [5.00]
I did a whole weekend at the track and didn't realize I never put the OE strut brace back on until I was starting at the engine for a bit.

Yeah...they make a huge difference (not really).

Certainly doesn't hurt anything.

We don't have anything in the works currently, but we'll definitely share if that day comes.
