Be careful with self tapping screws

I installed the OEM aluminum pedals in my car yesterday. The installation was was very easy if you know how drill holes on steel (brake pedal / clutch pedal too). We took a short cut and used self tapping screws for the gas pedal. Immediately after installation, the gas pedal didn't feel right. It has a lot more resistance when I try to step on it. Turns out the self tapping screw in the bottom right corner, closest to the center console, is hitting the pedal mechanism. I removed that screw and now it works fine. I guess I have to replace the screws with the OEM screws and nuts next time I go into the shop.

You're lucky you were able to get the screw out and that it didn't cause an accident. Was the screw sticking out that much behind the pedal? Can you not use a smaller one or was this a short one that was just TOO close?

Stupid question but does anyone know what kind of screws you need for aftermarket pedals? I've got unltimate pedals coming but they didn't come with mounting hardware. What kind of screws and nuts are the oem ones?

OEM pedals do have any screw... They are wrapped with plastic pieces.

This happened to me this morning first drive after installing mine last night. I was driving to work and had to stop and I thought maybe I had left something behind the pedals while drilling.

Hoping I can get the self tapping screw out and then cut a bit off or grind a bit off the end. Problem is the hole is going to be a bit off a mess and be slightly more loose.

Just use the proper hardware from the get go. It's a car, not a piece of drywall?

Your local hardware store should sell the proper drill bits to drill through steel.
