Performance: aFe xpipe hfc v. Akra xpipe hfc

Currently running a afe xpipe hfc paired with akra rear section. I recently heard a full akra system and loved the sound.

I an planning on going with a ESS 650 kit and am curious if the performance will be better paired with the Akra x pipe?

Thanks in advance!

Difference of 5hp probably, and on a (to be boosted) 650hp car, unnoticeable.

The performance gain may come from the weight reduction, but again, reducing 20lbs on a 3600lbs car is unnoticeable.

Stuff does add up though, like if you added lighter wheels, carbon drive shaft, flex fuel kit (be careful with the limitation of the stock fuel pump) etc. along with you 650kit.

Difference will be negligible. Go with whatever sound you like better. Akra does have the weight advantage if you care about that.

I also have an aFe xpipe with HFCs and I think there's 0 reason to switch to anything else. The difference in any power gain is going to be negligible from one HFC xpipe to another, and quite honestly is probably so small that it would be impossible to tell if it's just minor environment differences from dyno runs, even if done back to back.

Thanks for the clip. Sounds awesome! I thought AFE was running 200 cell cats though?

200 cell on their non-resonated, and 300 cell on their resonated.

I questioned them about this at one time and they said they only do the 300 cell cats... and didn't know anything about the 200 setup. I suspect he just didn't know, or maybe it was an old offering that hasn't been updated. It's on their website still.

I appreciate the offer. I actually picked up an extra oem x pipe and had my buddy replace the primary cats with 200 cell hfc's. He made some O2 spacers as well so I'm waiting to see if it helps avoid a cel.

i have the fabspeed sensor spacers. they are like tiny catalysts. at first, i thought they didn't work with my 300 cell cats because i got a check engine light about 400 miles after my install. however, i never checked the code and learned the code wasn't for o2 sensor, but something else. so it may be working.
i do not know if the 300 cell cats are enough, or these cats with the sensor spacers is what is doing the trick. i believe i got the 45* fitting.

That’s interesting. I wonder if it’s the 300 cell cats or spacers? We did a 90 degree angle on our spacers. I guess I’ll find out when I put some mileage on the car. Hope it works!

I don't think any other catted x-pipes use a 300cell cat. Might be why most people with catted xpipes don't seem to have much luck with running without a CEL consistently?

I would think the akra makes a little more power. Smaller cats pushed further back means less restrictive and with a supercharger that might actually matter a bit. Maybe 10-15whp on a car making 500? Also lighter if you care about such things, the aFe 300cell/resonated was only about 9lb lighter than stock by my measurement, akra is more like 20lb

What cats did you use?

Super confusing.

Their site shows more hp/torq with the 300 cell/resonated pipe than the 200 cell/non-res pipe.

This doesn't compute. Further, why the difference in cell counts at all?

it a nice pipe and i'm happy with it, and the sound is great, but i don't know what is up with their dyno numbers... seems a bit skewed.
take a look at their dyno sheets, the baseline runs were done in the morning with cooler temps, and the runs after the xpipe install were done in the heat of the day- and made a stupid amount of power.
i don't have a tune and the car makes a little more power in the mid range, but it doesn't make 50 ft/lbs more torque. lol

Good input. You're running the resonated/catted version, without a tune, and noticed a little more midrange? Like 4k to 6kish? That's precisely what this motor needs in my opinion.

And no CEL?

yep, around 4-6k has a little more grunt. i do have the catted/resonated version.
the check engine light i have is related to a temperature sensor, not the o2 sensors. so, no.
