Is this CarMax listing wrong?
Link to listing: http://www.carmax.com/enus/view-car/...ml?id=12544780
The listing claims it is a Competition Package 4 door sedan. I did a VIN look up and it has no mention of the competition package? Side bar - are those GTS wheels? and that could have made them mismark the car? |

It's not a Competition Package if it isn't on the build sheet. Wheels look like the Style 359 factory wheels in black. When I was looking at listings it seemed that most dealers didn't know the difference between an automatic and manual transmission much less options so beware.

Yup, not Comp Pkg. It does have M Sport mode though.
The original wheels are supposed to be the 19" polished 220 style so the current wheels were swapped. Its also a MY11 but production date is 2010 |

Yeah, I looked at bmwvin.com too. Definitely no mention of Competition Package. Also, as someone else mentioned, it originally came with 220M wheels. Also, the carbon leather trim seems to have been added as well. On the build sheet it was satin chrome. On the plus side, the car does seem to have heated seats and Comfort Access.

I would look for something else. For the price value it seems ok, but you can put in a bit more money and find one that's cleaner and 100% stock. And if you're looking for dct you can easily find a zcp e90.

I'm not crazy about the black wheels (not even sure if they're OEM), but you could always sell those and put the stock 219, 220, or 359 on in silver.
I'd take the VIN to a dealer and check the service history.

LOL massive waste of energy. They give absolutely zero fucks about those ads. They're usually rife with errors because the information is auto-filled. When I was shopping for M3s, I didn't even bother filtering transmission type since I knew it was often wrong.

True story. I even left feedback once to let them know that a car they had listed as blue was actually Jerez Black. Someone contacted me back as though I was interested. I just let them know I was an enthusiast and that they were gonna mislead serious and knowledgable buyers. Very few, if any, fucks were given that day :/

But it has the EDC button on the center console. Doesn't that only come with the Comp package??

- it is NOT a ZCP competition package M3. the BMW build says it came with 220M double spoke wheels. So the wheels were swapped at some point. -The current wheels appear to be authentic ZCP wheels. One of the picture shows just the wheel and they look exactly like my 359 ZCP wheels including the OEM bmw M logo. I think what we have here is some trickster who sold his non ZCP car to Carmax as a ZCP. He got the M drive option (with the wheel M button) but that does not make it a ZCP . How much the ZCP wheels upgrade alone are worth is for you to decide but it won't have Sport EDC mode, upgraded suspension tuning and 1 cm lower stance. On a personal note i think BMW disappointed on everything they did after 2010. The competition package option should have had at the least the COMPETITION MPE Exhaust included and some other goodies like interior instruments like oil pressure. I am absolutely convinced that the 2009 Financial crisis had a huge impact and change of strategy at BMW. Behind closed corporate doors they killed the M motorsport division's autonomy. That meant no more bespoke engines, all M engine must be main series derivatives and it's what we see in the M4/3. It was a well hidden fact, even the release specs had FALSE bore / stroke numbers to mislead everybody. After a few months when nobody cared to check, they released PDF on the engine with the correct bore /stroke and it's the same as the 135i N55 engine. For the E92 M3 they killed a more generous competition package offer (MPE had to be in the package). Finally they realized they went too far and jumbled together a stroker S65 in the M3 GTS that was available to basically nobody (or a hundred made, none in the usa) just for supporting brand image. Then came the m4 a complete disaster.. At this point they're no longer a leader in performance cars. I would definitively look at a GTR or a porsche in my next car. Carmax knows nothing about the brands they sell nor the options other than a ZCP equipped M3 fetches more money than a standard LCI M3. Wouldn't surprise me if they listed that FALSELY on purpose. I've purchased 4 cars from the company. My 4th was an M3 E92 ZCP and it was missing the splitters. I brought it up before final sale and they said they'd hook me up with the splitters.....instead I got burned in the end for the splitters and Rod bearing knock after 2-3,000 miles. They did not honor my warranty and handled correspondence poorly. In the end I bought the front splitters and had my Rod bearings and fastening hardware replaced on my dime. I love my M but Carmax can eat a fat cock!
