Question Engine light, "Increased Emissions" / camshaft correlation code...

Hi all,

I just got an engine light on for the last few days with the note "Increased Emissions" warning on my screen. It doesn't seem to drive any different, but when I took it to my local mechanic he scanned and got a code "Camshaft Correlation". What could this be? I searched and didn't get any useful results. The mechanic suggested that I take it to a stealership because it was beyond his abilities. Has anyone gotten this code before? What could it mean? How much would it cost? My dealership is overbooked and is not looking at appointments till next week as well as a recommended shop here RMP motors. Any ideas and suggestions in the meantime?

TIA.

I didn't actually ask for the number, my mechanic just said "Camshaft Correlation". I really should get myself something to read the codes.

I just had the same thing happen with my car. Codes were P2626 (O2 sensor pumping current trim/open bank), P0392 (camshaft position sensor B circuit low input), P0368 (camshaft position sensor B Circuit high input), P0027 (crankshaft position correlation). Car was running but not optimally. Scheduled a appointment and order some camshaft position sensors which are arriving today. Yesterday, code cleared on its own, and car is running great.

My wild guess is that the car retarded timing as a result of bad gas, and after that cleared the system, and the car ran fine with all the pep it had before. I'm going to wait to see if it reappears and have the sensors ready for replacement.

Edit -- For those so interested, the retail price on these sensors is around $170, they can be generally bought for $120-140, but if you buy from AutohausAZ, they are $60.

Hmm, I did just get gas before the light went on. When the local mechanic reset my light, it came back on after a few hours of driving again (but with the same gas). I have an appointment with RMP to see them Apr 18. In the meantime I guess I should drive around to get rid of the tank of gas and see if it goes away with a new tank? I've been trying to avoid driving the car the last few days.

As an update -- my issue never came back. Contra to my indy shop owner's prediction. The car is running strong with no issues or stuttering. I've got the sensors I bought in anticipation of resolving the issue and may keep them. I will say it's a head scratcher.

Well today I drove my car after not for the last few days and the light was off and remained off. I still have 1/2 tank of the original gas. I don't get it, but fingers crossed!

I would have your engine timing physically checked if that error occurs again. Also, your VANOS might be malfunctioning.
