Just curious why you choose M3

a new M3 is about $70,000, you can afford some faster cars with less money, could anyone here tell me why you choose M3 instead of other faster cars?

Simply put the M3 is a jack of all trades. It was named the best all around car on the market right now.

It's what you get when you try to maximize, performance, practicality, comfort, convenience, looks and luxury. It's not the best at any one of those six things, but it's 8/10 in each one. So yeah you can buy cars that are better in some ways, but they will be much worse overall.

Because it isn't just about speed.

Sure outright speed is one component of a performance street car, but ride-handling balance, interior and exterior design, overall dynamics, steering feel and responsiveness, braking, ergonomics, luxury and convenience features, practicality, quality of materials, the looks and sounds, the subjective feel of the engine's powerband, etc, etc. are all factors that come into play.

It is about which car can deliver the overall most enjoyable driving experience, all factors considered. And this is why the M3 is legendary.

I didn't like the M5s transmission, if it had M-DCT or even Streptronic I would be on e60post

Excellently stated

OP - it appears you own an M3 so please answer your own question...why did you buy a M3 if there are faster cars that cost less than the M3? In your case it sounds like you are more interested in going fast in a straight line.

It's an iconic automobile and arguably one of the most desired cars on the planet amongst men.

You are assuming everyone bought a new one for $70,000?
Mine cost less than half that.
However, it does have the best combination of performance and practicality.
It does seem that as far as sports cars go, the more you spend the less practicality you have to put up with.

I am constantly impressed by the E9x M3's reliability. The M3 is not the outright fastest car available for the money, but it is one of the most capable in the price range that can perform over and over for years on end. That, and of course the M3's ability to drive you and your family to dinner one night and fly at the track the next day.

There is no other car in this price range that combines performance, handling, quality, style, sound, history and utility as well as the M3. I drive this car pretty much everyday to work with a cup of coffee in the cupholder......and then do some real spirited driving on the back roads and twisties on the weekend. It does both so well.

We should consider making this thread a Sticky?
This topic comes up alot and it seems that there are people out there who think that speed is the whole package when it comes to cars.
Perhaps they want the bragging rights (my car is faster than your car)?
Anyone can buy a Ariel Atom for around the price of a M3 and it will slaughter just about anything out there in the performance department but there is still MORE to a car than just how fast it goes. It's the whole package..

triggers, this is a little off topic but I think your sig needs to be corrected. It's a 2004 MV Agusta "SPR" - I owned one myself. It was #190/300

Between my two dream cars (911 and M3), practicality won over as the M isn't quite as flashy showing up at client meetings - especially in this economy. Plus, useable back seat.
