If you want that Kool Aid with some ice then that's you. There are M3 intakes in this forum that cost almost as twice as this Megan exhaust. Exhausts that cost as much as a brand new Nissan Versa. Stroker engines more expensive than a new 128i... To me, there are decent and effective upgrades and then there is just insanity. |

FYI for anyone who wants pics of the Megan exhaust I took some a few days back. This one was "3 days used..."

I just installed my Megan exhaust yesterday. Sounds great to me... particularly for the price. The welds look good and I don't see how anyone could call this a mediocre product. I was actually really impressed by the quality. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the fact that it didn't come with 4 required nuts to mate with the factory bolts. A trip to the hardware store and $1.97 fixed that though. I did find it to be a bit irritating that the nuts were't included. Maybe the same happens with the Agency Power? Not sure...
Does it drone? Sure, a little bit, but all others will too unless you spend a ridiculous amount of money. I'll enjoy the $1000+ I saved on some track events. In my opinion my money is better spent there. So far this seems to be a well engineered product. It's certainly not a piece of crap like people assume it is just because it's cheaper. You don't always get what you pay for. I don't feel the need to pay for someone else's R&D. If you think I am crazy then you are the person who probably buys Advil vs generic ibuprofen. If it makes you feel better to spend more for a name then go for it. I don't think it's wrong to do... it's just not for me. |

I did mine DIY, but had a mate with a hoist to help me out. It gets a bit fiddly taking the factory exhaust off the rubber hangers, and putting the megan back onto the hangers.

Just wanted to weigh in here with some observations that I have made in the almost 2 years of working and a very prestigious dealership in MI with many M's coming through the service and sales department... I have pretty much heard every exhaust mentioned here, in most forms (x pipe etc), while they all sound a little bit different, they all sound better than factory, and I am sure everyone can agree on that. I read through hours of the forum when making my purchasing decision, I listened to sales, service and customers car, and even drove in most of them. A co-worker had an agency exhaust, it is the same exact exact exhaust as mentioned above, sounds the EXACT same. for 1/3 of the price, as also mentioned above. Money is not a problem, but it is that way because of making smart purchasing decisions... Everyone one of us has something that they justify spending more on for name recognition, it may be your M3, it may be your suit, it may be your bitches, whatever the case, we all do it in some fashion, and that is a FACT. So know with all that being said, I made the decision to go with the megan exhaust because it is the only exhaust for the M3 that is in line with what an exhaust should really cost based on 100's of other vehicles. Granted, there is more R and D with some of the higher end stuff, and it may sound better to your ears... Some also have no drone, which personally to me, does not make a difference, I actually enjoy it a little, and with the Megan, it is not bad to me at all. If you don't like any drone, then buy an exhaust with out it, if you can stand a little bit, buy a Megan. I have put about 3,000 miles on teh car with the exhaust, and I am very happy, people constantly comment that my car sounds amazing, and because of the blue tips (see below) looks amazing. Bottom line, figure out what is going to make YOU happy, and when you find that comfort zone, purchase. Whether $550, or $3550.

^Good post. I'm still deciding which exhaust to go with, and while I'm able to afford whichever one that suits me, I still hate the feeling of getting worked over. It's the same way I feel about sales guys at the local best buy trying to force you into a $200 set of HDMI "Monstor Cable" cables, when you can get one with the same specs for $4 online.
To each their own I guess. P.S. Nice color.

after reading all these posts and debates...I have decided to buy into saving some $$$. Ordered mine today. If it's a crap product, I will be out $600. If it does sound better than stock, weigh less than stock, then I'm a happy camper. I am a daily driver. just want to have some fun driving the car, hear some exhaust, and mind my own business. will update with before and after on GoPro 2 Camera!

Really old thread, but lots of prudent wisdom here. I've been infected with the mod bug for a long time, but I'm also smart with my money. At the end of the day though, it really does come down to whatever floats one's boat.
As for the Megan exhaust, my E93 won't take it without some risky modifications to the rearward support braces, so it was a no-go for me. Otherwise, I would have definitely gotten it - and in fact, preferrably used! |

Before you buy this exhaust make sure the tips are welded on correctly. A customer came the other day and the logo was upside-down. I think the initial batch of them had the tips on backwards.
It does sound better than stock.

This thread is great. I purchased this exhaust with the intention of having something to hold me over until I found MY perfect exhaust. I couldn't stand the look of the stock exhaust and same goes for the Dinan. So far it looks good and sounds good... Fitment wasn't that great but not terrible either... Minus the bolts/clamps being a little cheap. I came from corvettes and it blew my mind that I could get a full system including headers for the price of most m3 rear sections! I would recommend this exhaust to anyone who believes the price of a product should be justifiable. That said it seems like in any foreign car market, Japanese, German, etc, people are willing to pay hefty premiums for what is mostly just a name so be willing to get the "why did you buy that crap" question... Anyway all in all great exhaust esp for the money!

i agree with most of the positive comments. I installed mine in July and am very happy. I've heard about the upside down logo's, mine was correct. Sounds better than the OEM Mod, i've compared them side by side. This OEM Mod had a an anoying rattle.
