GM CEO Out.

After less than one year as GM CEO, Fritz Henderson is stepping down.

Being he was scheduled to speak at the LA Auto show tomorrow would lend me to think "pushed out" versus stepping down.

New blood needed?

Dropping the balls over Saab and Saturn did him in. The marching orders were to get lean and focused. Losing Pontiac doesn't cut it.

????

Renault killed the Penske-Saturn deal.

And we don't know yet why Koenigsegg backed out of the deal. And on a personal note, Fritz is a fan of Saab. His wife owns a 9-3 Aero.

Saturn and Pontiac are dead. Saab might be sold still or will go into liquidation.

Plus, it isn't Fritz's fault for the failing of the sales deals in any way because GM doesn't own them anymore. Motors Liquidation does.

GM has several issues. Producing cars that bring to mind the words numb and gray are not a way to induce a profit.

Word is out on both deals that GM management coudln't/wouldn't move fast or flexibly enough to suit either buyer. That should surprise no one who understands how inherently glacial GM is at deciding anything. The board's action essentially states that Henderson was expected to change that and he wasn't succeeding.

Again, Renault caused the deal with Penske-Saturn to fail.

We do not know why Koenigsegg backed out yet.

The only thing you can pin on Fritz is the Opel sale. He wanted to sell Opel. He didn't change his opinion until the GM Board practically forced him to. Not only with that, Fritz has had a few PR wars with Ed and Lutz. There was no way Fritz was going to last as CEO with that going on.
