The 18's just look so out of place and detract from the overall appearence and presence of the car. However, they do seem to be a good marketing ploy by BMW to get a good $2500 out of each M3 customer who will all undoubtedly option up to the 19's.

too bad the 4 door M3 looks almost nothing like alpine's photochop of the same car. his chop made the car look beautiful. but from all the spyshots i've seen, something is just missing from the four door.

I think it has a lot to do with color of most spy shots. Remember back when we see coupe spy shots first surfaced on the web, only until spacegray and white coupe spy photos came then we truly appreciate the lines and curves of the car. The larger CLS wheel with lower body stance also made difference on the PS from Alpine.

Standard E90 body is slightly wider than E92 coupe, about 1.3 inch wider. If BMW engineer made wider body in proportion both on sedan/coupe M model then the sedan tends to look a bit wider on the fender flare.

I am loving the fact that THIS M3 (E90) has a sunroof I hope this continues into production or stays as an option.

i agree with you about the color. i don't think the melborne red is a flattering color for the new M so it might very well be that the color is creating a wrong impression of the car.

but to elaborate on your comments regarding alpine's chops, he had taken certain design liberties like stretching the front fascia vertically, so that it appeared lower to the ground, including the e92 m3 styled rear, and including a lip spoiler, all of which bmw failed to take any cues from. there was a lot of room for bmw to make this car look even better than the e92, and from all indications so far, they haven't taken the initiative to do that.

but i also agree with you that there are some more subtle cues in the chop that aren't fair to compare against the mules we're seeing, namely how low it sits to the ground, the rims, and the color.

time will tell.

I don't like the exhaust showing up like that in the back.

There's no way it's not going to come stock with 19s. Just no way. (Is there?)

BMW is known for sharing the same front end for M3 model between coupe/sedan. It happened on E36 generation, it's not surprising BMW follows the same route for M3 brand recognition. If my memory serve correctly, E36 M3 did have two versions of front bumper between coupe and cabrio.

car comes stock with 18's. you can upgrade to 19's for a cost, either as an individual option, or as part of "sports" package.

i guess they arent going to use the e92 m3 side skirts afterall. my chop was close enough i guess def would look better with the 19 inch stock wheels the e92 comes with. that red color is too blah not made for M3.

No doubt the chop you created was the closest to the final production we've seen so far. Any chance you can update a new edition of M3 sedan PS based on the newly released spy shots? Just wonder how it would look with different side skirt, wider rear fender flare, and trunk spoiler from your earlier master piece.
